Ch 38. Another Time

30 minutes before in another timeline...

With the last red light disappearing from Jean's body, it went in Y/N's. And thus, the transition completes. White queen is panting tiredly. The Stepford Cuckoos also seem to be exhausted by the ceremony. Mastermind also seem to be tired, though he's far more exhausted to see the result. He looks over to Y/N, who is still moving around.

"He's still struggling." Mastermind gets red flags from seeing Y/N.

The White queen puts her energy, despite being exhausted, uses her powers to check up on Y/N's brainwaves. "It's resisting...! It wants to break free!"

"Then hold him down!" Mastermind orders.

Everybody surrounds Y/N again, using their powers to control the force within him. However, as much as they try to control, they don't have the power. Y/N begins to yell out of pain. The woman in white knows this will end bad.

"We need to go...! He's going out of control!"

"We can control him! Don't you dare to stop now!"

However, as Mastermind dares his people to continue, flames come out of Y/N's body. Without any time to respond or even comprehend what's going on, the flames consume them and burn the entire room. No one survives thanks to the burning room, that soon spreads out in the entire building. No one but one person survives, and that is Y/N.

Scott comes out of his bed, still unable to sleep. He removes his sleeping mask and put on his glasses. With putting on his slippers, he walks out of his bedroom. Ever since Y/N's disappearances, he's unable to sleep. Jean's as well, but as much he considers her as a friend, he likes Y/N more than a friend. If the one he likes to get hurt, or worse... than he doesn't know what to do.

With a sigh, he decides to walk to the kitchen. Once walking in, he notices someone else inside. Logan, leaning against a counter while drinking beer, his sixth. Empty bottles stand behind him. Knowing Logan, he's upset with the situation too. "Hey."

Logan looks at Scott while he walks pass him. The teen gets a glass cup from the counter and get himself some water. "Hey."

Scott wonders and hopes if there is any more news. "Is there any-?"

"No." Logan answers. Scott was too hopeful and get disappointed. "We find them, no matter what happens."

Scott doesn't responds and chug down the water. Afterwards, he puts the cup in the sink. He wanted to say goodnight to Logan, but he doesn't have the motivation to talk, so he walks away. He leaves the kitchen, walking through the archway, he stops walking when he ears someone else walking in the kitchen.

"There was a fire on the other side of town. The firefighters found Y/N!" Hank pants, wanting to bring the good news to Logan.

Scott eyes widen. He walks towards the archway and eavesdrop on the conversation, eager to get the answers he wants to hear.

"Is he alright!?" Logan quickly puts down the bottle.

"He's in the hospital, but he's stable." Hank responds.

"And what about Jean?"

"...There is no sign of her." Hank quietly responds. "They only found Y/N in the chaos, alongside unrecognizable bodies."
