Ch 22. The Position Of A Mother

The three are heading towards their target's destination. Y/N is at the wheel again, Rogue next to him and Kurt in the back. It takes a while to get to their destination, since New York City is filled with traffic. Y/N notices Rogue's coldly demeaner and wants to know her intensions.

"What are you planning when we reach her?" Y/N asks. His eyes glued on the road.

"I dunno yet..." Rogue admits. "I guess I just to yell at her or somethin'." She says unsurely.

Y/N thinks it's odd that Rogue is acting mad, even though she said she didn't trust Mystique from the start, unless... "Let's try to avoid a fight."

"Fine by me." Rogue mutters.

Y/N looks sympathetically at Rogue and then look back at the road. From the mirror view, he also sees Kurt lost in his thoughts. "Everything alright Kurt?"

Kurt snaps out of his thoughts. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little tired."

Y/N hums. "We will be home soon. You can rest up then." He smiles.

Kurt doesn't smile and merely nods.

About an hour later, they arrive at the apartment complex. However, Y/N doesn't park right in front, just parking it a street away.

"Let me first see if she's alone or not." Y/N puts his finger against his head and begin doing his deed. He quickly detected Mystique and discovers she's going out of the building, now changed into a blonde woman that looks in her 20s. "She's getting out of the building as a blonde woman, just a bit older than us." Y/N informs them. Rogue nods and everybody unbuckle to get out of the car.

They walk on the side of the street. Y/N and Rogue are in front while Kurt is somewhat slagging behind. Y/N looks behind him to see Kurt, as almost always, who is cloaked. "You sure you're okay?"

Kurt doesn't reply immediately. "Let'z just go."

Rogue gives a confused look at Y/N, who merely gives one back. The three continue walking and sees the disguised Mystique crossing the road, towards their side. She then gets in the alleyway. Rogue sprints, not wanting to lose sight of her. Y/N eyes is filled with surprise. "Rogue!" He wants to stay together, but Rogue doesn't care about that.

Rogue is the first one to get in the alleyway. Y/N and Kurt runs in after a second. Mystique walks in another corner and Rogue did the same. As Y/N and Kurt takes the same corner, Rogue is ready to yell at Mystique. "Don't you dare walking away Mystique!"

Mystique stops and turning around. She looks surprised when her eyes lay on Rogue. She changes into her true self. "I doubt you're here to ask me to go back."

"Unless you plan to lie about your true motive, I highly don't come back." Rogue says with snide in her voice.

Mystique hums, not showing any emotion on her face. "I'm surprised you came to visit me. Lucky for you, the rest of the Brotherhood is currently away."

Y/N is interested by this statement. "Does this mean everybody made it out alive?"

"Yes, no thanks to Pyro though." Mystique comments.

Y/N is happy knowing his uncle Erik, Pietro and Wanda made it out alive. As well the rest of the Brotherhood. Know Y/N thinks of it, this means Gambit made it out safely. Now the telepath wonders why Gambit helped him.

"I want to know the truth." Rogue puts her arms around. "From the very start, did you intended to make me part of the Brotherhood?"

"At first not." Mystique answers. "I wanted to help you, but when Magneto found out about you and your gift, he wanted you to join him."

Rogue scoffs. "You really think I believe that?! From the start, you thought me about my powers!"

"Because you recently developed them." Mystique argues. "Knowing what your mutation is and learn how to control it is the key to live with them."

Rogue continues glaring at Mystique, not believing her. "Whatever excuses you have, I just want to say one thing. Go fuck yourself." Rogue turns around and walks away.

Y/N is caught off guard by Rogue leaving. "Rogue." He looks back at Mystique, who gives a regretful look at Rogue. Y/N knows Mystique doesn't intend to hurt them, so he follows Rogue.

Mystique turns around, but Kurt finds his voice to speak up. "Wait!" The blue woman turns around, wondering what the German wants. Kurt doesn't know what to say, so he decides to change his appearance into his true self.

Mystique gasps at Kurt's appearance. "You...! Those eyes... the skin...!"

"Doez it mean it's true...?" Kurt asks quietly, finding it hard to accept he found his birth mother.

Mystique walks over to Kurt, giving a better look at the boy's face. "You're definitely him... I didn't think I ever so you 15 years ago..."

Kurt gulps. "I never zought I ever meet you."

Mystique shares the same difficult face as Kurt. "So did I. I wish it was the same for your brother..."

So the other boy was his brother. Kurt wonders why this happened. Where is his brother, his father, why did she run away. "I have zeze nightmares that happenz vrom time to time... I know they're flashbacks. Why were you fleeing?"

Mystique is surprised Kurt remembered. "You were just born when it happened. You remember all of it?"

"Just that you were vleeing and virst lost my older brover bevore lozing me." Kurt explains.

Mystique hums. "I wished we at least stay together. They never intended to get you or me."

Kurt realized that she was probably getting the reason she gets chased is because of his brother. "Who chazed you?"

Mystique gives her son by blood a difficult look. "The Inner Circle were. They-"

She gets interrupted by Y/N who yells. "Kurt!"

Kurt looks back at where the sound is coming from. "Y/N!" He looks back, but Mystique is gone. He looks around, but there is no sight of his mother by blood.

Y/N found Kurt. "Kurt, there you are! We're getting home." He walks over to Kurt, who is again deep in thought. "I'm getting worried Kurt. Please tell me what's wrong. I want to help."

Kurt looks back to his watch and activates the cloaking device. "Perhapz we can talk later. I firzt want some time to procezz." He looks back at his friend.

Y/N hums, still giving Kurt a worried face. "I understand. Let's go back then."

Kurt hums. Y/N turns around and walks away, with Kurt following him. He reminds himself what Mystique said. "Inner Circle..." Kurt wonders what kind of group it is. Why were they chasing him and his family? Why were they interested in his brother? Who are in the Inner Circle? Kurt decides to research about this group, though he has a feeling that leads to nowhere.

As the two walk back to the car and back to Rogue, a pigeon is watching them, who sits on a building. The shapeshifter hopes this isn't the last time she sees her son.
