It was silent for awhile as they both took in the moment, Aiden didn't want to break the comfortable atmosphere or say the wrong thing. But Sora spoke soon after the silence started.
"Uhm.. A-Aiden..?"
"Yes?"
He felt the boy take a shaking breath before he allowed himself to speak again.
"I l-like you.."
The Prince's heart felt like it would beat a hole through his chest and escape to coddle Sora from the adorable, shy confession.
"I like you too.. More then you know."
The boy leaned further against Aiden's neck to hide and the Prince felt his hands beginning to fidget behind his head.
"S-So.. you still w-want to g-go on a-a t-tryst with m-me..?"
"Yes, of course I do. I'm sorry we haven't been able to, my father has had me busy since our last meeting with the Nobles."
"N-No, no don't be s-sorry..! I-I understand that y-you have b-big responsibilities so I-It's okay."
The Prince hummed quietly in agreement. He had been trying to get his work done as quickly as possible, but with his other tasks every day as well as spending time with Sora that left a short amount of time left for him to dedicate to finishing those tasks.
But before he could apologize for his lack of time, an idea popped into his head.
"I have to make a visit to the ancient temple, my father would like us to make an offering so I am to deliver it.
If you have the time we could go together, I can bring food and drinks and we could walk around the meadow and forest."Sora removed himself from his hiding place, leaning back so they could make eye contact as the Prince spoke.
"I can stay out however long I wish if he knows I'm at the temple. It wouldn't be strange for me to be missing the whole day."
Sora bit his lip in thought.
"I-I might h-have class.."
The Prince shook his head, a smile gracing his features.
"I'm making the trip on Sunday, you shouldn't have class then."
"Oh.."
Aiden was quiet as he waited for the boys answer to the offer. It was probably the best opportunity he could get for awhile and the anticipation was almost too much to bare. But finally Sora seemed to come to a conclusion and nodded.
"I-I would l-like that."
Aiden's smile turned into a gleeful grin at Sora's acceptance and he placed a quick kiss on the boy's cheek. Causing Sora's face to turn pink as the boy shied away with a tiny smile of his own.
"Great! Where shall I pick you up at?"
The boy frowned in confusion.
"Just y-you? A-Are there not g-going to be a-any guards?"
The Prince shook his head.
"No. Carriages are not permitted at the temple. It is seen as disrespectful to bring large machinery to the sacred land and because it is a place protected by the dragons I do not need guards. Just Kazua in the area."
Sora's mouth formed a small o shape as he took in the new information. But then he seemed to become confused again.
"H-How will w-we travel t-there then..?"
The question was a good one. Aiden hadn't exactly planned that far ahead.
If they couldn't take a carriage, then the only other options were to walk- which he was not going to make Sora do for such a long distance- to take a horse, or fly there. The latter he had planned for, but without Sora having a Soulmate that was out of the question.
"Leave that to me, I'll have this figured out by the time we leave. Now, where am I to be picking you up at?"
"T-The church, t-the one you
d-dropped me off a-at before.""Okay, got it. What time?"
Sora bit his lip in thought. Aiden saw a quick flash of worry in his eyes before the boy shook his head, seemingly to himself.
"L-Let's m-meet at noon, I-If that's
o-okay with y-you."Aiden smiled, nodding his head gently.
"This won't cause any problems for you will it?"
There it was again, that glimpse of worry in the boy's eyes before he gave a tiny smile.
"N-No, it's o-okay."
Aiden didn't quite believe him, obviously there was something more that he wasn't telling the Prince. But he didn't want to push his luck or make the boy uncomfortable by questioning him, so he kept those thoughts to himself.
For now he decided to live in the moment and be happy about their current situation. Sora didn't seem uncomfortable being held and that made the Prince nearly giddy with the thought that he might be allowed closer to Sora more often.
The boy seemed to grow shy the longer he stared silently, his mouth stretched in a smile.
"A-Am I not h-heavy..? Y-You can put m-me down."
"You're not heavy at all, and I like holding you so unless you want me to put you down I'm happy to stay like this."
A crimson blush spread across Sora's face before he softly said.
"O-Okay.." and leaned forward, the Prince took that opportunity to kiss his cheek before Sora once again hid his face in the crook of Aiden's neck. The Prince wanted to dance with the delicious happiness that soared through his chest at Sora's timid acceptance of his affection. Although he was able to restrain himself to simply swaying instead after he turned to watch the others on the field.
Kazua was standing aside with Mr, Baker. The two of them watching the students and dragons interact from a small distance away. The old man was likely relieved the King's presence made the teens behave themselves since he no longer had to be in the fray trying to keep things under control.
It seemed the dragons weren't that interested in the students, although some were showing off and humoring their questions with lazy responses. Only one dragon appeared to be interested in interacting with a particular student, but that was the extent of enthusiasm on any of the beasts' part.
Upon looking closer at the dragons Aiden couldn't quite imagine any of them as Sora's Soulmate. They seemed far too petulant and immature to share a soul deep connection with the smart boy.
So he now understood how Sora figured out that he was likely not Soulmates with any of them. But still, there was always a possibility he was incorrect.
...Right?
