My theory on lion is coming from the episodes "Laser light canon"and "Maximum Capacity." Greg's storage unit has many African artifacts such as drums and spears. It also has numerous cat pictures, statues and a cat bed. My theory is that Rose went to Africa at some point and bonded with a lion cub. That lion bonded so much with Rose that it became almost like a part of her thus copying the color. This is supported by Greg's reaction to seeing lion in the episode "Ocean gem," where he says "You!"and is extremely surprised to see him. Also in the episode "Full disclosure" When Greg is pulling up lion leaps away before Greg can see him. From these we can conclude that Greg knows Lion and has seen him/her before.
