I got this theory from monstamotha on reddit.The theory is that the fusion of Ruby, Sapphire, Pearl, Amethyst and Rose creates Pink Star Diamond a fusion strong enough to to win the 2nd gem war. The picture above depicts Pearl as a mask with the gem on top, Amethyst's gem on the chest, and Garnet's gems are on the hands as usual. This fusion is what would have given the Crystal gems their signature symbol of a star.
