                                              If my theory on corruption is correct then the reason that Pearl took so long to come back is because her gem was trying to take over. 

                          Actual Pearl's inspire loyalty to a cause. She lost her cause when Rose was gone. So when she poofed it took her awhile to come back as herself and not let her gem take over. Her gem would take over and make her find a cause.
