The theory is that gem placement can effect a fusion. Sardonyx and Alexandrite do not have a third eye like the rest of the fusions with Sapphire. The Temple fusion also does not have the third eye because of Pearl's gem. Pearl's gem blocks the eye and takes away the future vision. If Alexandrite had future vision she would have known that Steven and Connie were going to try to run away. Also since the fusion loses the ability of future vision they get a new one. Like the 360' turning that Sardonyx did.
