Many people wonder why Sugilite is so crazy and unstable. They see garnet as so calm and composed that fused with amethyst the fusion would be more serious and controlled. With Sugilite the fusion is not Garnet x Amethyst it is actually a fusion between Ruby x Sapphire x Amethyst. Ruby is a temperamental hot head and Amethyst is wild and free-spirited. Those personalities do not mix well. You may be thinking " but what about Sapphire" think of Ruby as a blazing fire in a campfire in the forest waiting for something to help it spread its destruction. Sapphire is a gentle rain that soothes some of that fire but not all of it leaving Garnet's fury but calm composition. Introduce Amethyst as gasoline to the mix you get a forest fire so destructive that a gentle rain is not enough to stop it.
