My theory is that the Kindergarten was a type of forced fusion. The shattered gems were liquified and inserted into the ground to grow. Then they were plucked out at the optimum time. Jasper was picked at the right time while Amethyst was not. Amethyst stayed in longer because she was further down from all the other gems. In real life a gem composed of other gems will combine better even into just one color and shape. Amethyst was a mistake. The centipeetle mother is a kindergarten gem identified by the unruly white hair. The casing around her is like the casing of the forced fused gems in "keeping it together." When Garnet bubbles the forced fused gems for a split second they have the same casing as the centipeetle mother. So, maybe if Amethyst and Jasper were to get bubbled their form would change to the same shape.
