Gem History

Gems live on Home world. They can be made by natural processes but that was too slow. If there was a war there the population would drop drastically. The diamonds had a plan to make their own gems. The first gems were Jade(desert glass) and Lapis. These gems were created through the process of collecting certain shattered gems and melting them together to form an aggregate. These diamonds wanted powerful warriors so they added pieces of the selves. Yellow has electricity, Blue has ice/water, White has fire, and Pink has sand. Rose added some of herself giving Jade her elemental power of sand. Blue diamond added some of herself to Lapis giving her the elemental power over water. Then the diamonds saw that with the combination of shattered gems and parts of themselves, that Lapis and Jade were way too powerful. So they trapped them in tools that they could use, a mirror and a pillow. They moved to a different alternative after seeing the process making too powerful of gems and taking too long. They moved to creating cubic zirconium but they did not add anything to make it sentient. They used it in flame fusion. With flame fusion you add powdered ingredients and melt them. They then reach a chamber,cool, and then crystallize. The cubic zirconium added gives them slight elemental powers. Ruby and Sapphire got yellow, so they can control electricity. The Pearls got whatever their master was. Rose's Pearl got sand but I think that Rose wanted her Pearl to be different. Rose added more of herself into her and Pearl got nubikinesis(power over clouds) and the ability to walk on water. As seen in " the message" Garnet does have the power to control electricity. Pearl used nubikinesis to create clouds and to quickly clear them in "sworn to the sword" while Rose's room creates things from clouds. Rose's Lion can also walk on water as Pearl does in "together breakfast." This also explains why Lapis and Pearl share a hairstyle. Pearl was very close to being a elemental gem but it was zirconium and not pure Pink Diamond. They found that this way was okay but they wanted faster production. They the turned to making the Kindergarten the Kindergarten liquidated shattered gems and put them in the ground for heat and pressure. Then pulled them out the longer they stayed the smaller and weaker they became. The pro to staying in longer was that you became more stable. Lapis' gem was cracked but she didn't fall apart like Amethyst. Amethyst was in the kindergarten longer than Jasper but she was not under constant heat like Lapis, so lapis became more stable. The kindergarten gems did not receive any zirconium so they do not use any elemental powers. Amethyst is the only gem that has not used any elemental powers. After the kindergarten was shut down. Yellow Diamond was the only leader left on Homeworld she uses her cubic zirconium to create gems. This is why Peridot can use electricity.
