Charles' POV

"Charles, you know how you did that thing where the memories of my mother came into my mind." Erik announced nervously.

"Yes Erik." I smiled.

We were seated opposite each other in my  office, a chessboard between us. Every now and then, we would pause our game and talk about many different things. He stared down at his hands and I smiled at him - I really loved him.

"Do you, do you think you could do it again?" He whispered.

"Of course." I responded.

I raised my right index and middle fingers up to my temple and focused on Erik. After entering his mind, I looked for the brightest part, the part that held memories that brought him the most joy. Taking a deep breath, I allowed myself to bring forward Erik's most treasured and happy memories.

I gasped softly - the memories that flashed before our eyes were not of his mother; they were not of anyone in his family.

Erik's happiest and most treasured memory was of the two of us - we were laughing together, casually playing chess. I recalled that night fondly, it was one of my favourite memories of the German man.

"That wasn't what I expected." Erik murmured.

"Me neither." I whispered, quickly wiping my eye so Erik wouldn't see the tear that had rolled down my cheek.

I looked over at Erik and saw that he was looking down at his hands. I smiled over at him.

"Charles, I think I know why we saw what we just did." He muttered.

"And why is that Erik." I breathed.

"I can't say, not without you hating me." He whispered.

"Tell me, I dare you." I grinned.

Erik looked up at me, he looked as though he was struggling through an internal battle as his mouth tried to form words. I stared into his grey eyes and smirked slightly. Erik turned pink.

"You're the psychic Charles, you tell me." He mumbled.

I raised my hand to my temple and focused on Erik again. When I entered his mind, echoey voices repeated the same 3 words over and over again.

I love you.
I love you.
I love you.

He loved me? I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

When I exited Erik's mind, i saw him staring at me, nervously waiting for a response. Standing up, I saw that his eyes fell. He sighed "forget I said anything." He whispered.

I walked over to him and knelt down so we were eye to eye.

"And why," I whispered, "would I do that darling?"

Leaning forward, I pressed my lips to Erik's, I could feel his shock and excitement. His hands rested on my back as I ran my hands through his hair. When we broke apart, smiles were present on both our faces.

"I think that's my new special memory." He murmured.

"Good, it's mine too." I responded before gently pressing our lips together once more.
