"You look like a hot mess," Stark said as you walked into his office.

"Oh, fuck you," you swore back at him dropping your bag.

You came directly from Steve's place over Tony's place. You were ready to throw a fire at the world in this minute. What you wished the most to do in this moment was to dig your head deep in work. Ignore whatever else of socials calls, just not focus on Steve. He made you crazy. You needed him out of your head.

It only took seconds before you buried yourself in the couch. Head first facing the pillow. What was even more scary, was how fast J.A.R.V.I.S moved your equipment over to you. You groaned. You needed to get your head up and actually work, that's what you wanted right? Still, you kept your head down.

"Don't worry cupcake, just take a breath," Tony said as he clapped your back and sat down beside you.

Tony had no idea what was going on in your mind, but it didn't matter. He could see that you clearly went through something. What he could do is simply being there for you. Did he call you for work? Yes, but it could wait. Working with a broken mind would not help anyone. He wanted you happy. Eager. Lust for work. Like how you used to be.

"I'm sorry Mr. Stark," you haltered

"Tony," he said with a little smile.

"I'm sorry Tony, you didn't call me over for this," You mumbled.

"What's going on?" he asked looking down at you.

Tony's hand rubbed your back caringly. Man, why couldn't you love this man. Not that you loved Steve, you absolutely loved Steve... But why couldn't you have these butterflies for Tony, or a guy like Tony. What you needed was to see Grant again. He made you happy. You had been so deep in the academy and helping Tony that you hadn't been able to see him. It didn't help that Steve always put up activities when you were supposed to meet him. At this point it almost seemed deliberate.

But Steve was a serious man, he would never plot against you. It wasn't like a man like him to do something like that. Your brain, your programming brain said it was wrong. Like an error. Why would someone cover up their dirty work like that, who had nothing to gain from it. That's when it clicked for you. Your brain was no longer thinking about Steve, it was thinking about work. It understood what was wrong.

"It's not the British," you said and immediately sat up, almost causing Tony to jump a little as you pulled up all the data in front of you.

"Look at the discovery we made, these... These are amazing hacks, cause even their leads are covered, I know this because I used to do- "you stopped yourself before you were about to admit to your past crimes. Tony lifted his brows at you.

"Because the hacker knew we would assume, they paint the picture that it had to be someone else than themselves. Which means, whoever is behind these attacks knew that you guys would hack, but assumed it would be some-" you went on a rant before Tony caught on.

"Who are not a genius like you, and would break the code," he said standing in happiness grabbing your hand.

You smiled, you finally smiled. This was amazing. You had finally figured out why the codes were how they were. Not only that, but it explained why the British was pointed at. You immediately started your work in decoding the last parts, just to have your idea confirmed.

"We have to bring in the tea-" Tony said, you cut him off before he could.

"No, no Avengers on this," you said, your tone strict.

Tony looked at you confused but waited for you to continue.

"Tony, I have done every discovery on this case. I get that it is a big deal, serious – many lives at stake, but let me work on it," you said turning towards him.

"This is a case that will require a team, you will need to be in the field, I can't be there with y-" he said,

"Let me gather a group," you said.

Tony had to trust you on this one. You needed a chance to right your wrongs, and he was the only person who could offer you that. He is the only one here, who officially could take you out of the academy to work, without you getting in trouble. You didn't want to just give the case up to strangers. The Avengers have no idea of the weight of the case.

"Who are you thinking about?" Tony asked crossing his arms, willing to hear you out.

"James and Fatima from the Academy-" you began before Tony cut you off.

"I cannot just take students off the Academy, they are no-" Tony interrupted you.

"Look at their scores, James and Fatima score way heigh than any other students when it comes to field work, and Fatima's main interested isn't even being out in the field!" You fired back showing him their scores.

"But I wasn't done, I wanted to ask if we could work with Grant Ward, Hunter and Simmons," you said more relaxed.

Tony let his arms fall down.

"Listen, Ward and Hunter are experienced in the field, we need a biologist like Simmons, plus the two last ones are from the UK, they can be helpful." You explained.

"Okay," He mumbled low.

Tony nodded his head and walked towards the window. You were actually right. Those people made sense, however he was afraid you needed more people. Not only that, but he knew he had to inform the Avengers even if they were not the ones working the case, and they would demand a place, a voice to be heard. He let his hands rest on his hips.

"Rogers, Barnes and Wilson will join too,"

That was the deal you had to swallow.

"I'll have your clothes picked up, meanwhile – shower and get ready. I have invited them all over," Tony informed you as he threw fresh towels over at you.

You grabbed it and walked into the bathroom.

What doors had you just opened?
