"Wait, what do you mean temperamental?" I asked.
"That thing has hated me ever since I acquired it," she said, pointing to it, "within Myddfai's personal collection of catalysts was a set of three rings, each with a sort of, will to them," she said. "They, in a way, choose their user. That thing always rejects me," she continued.
"So how will I know if it chooses me?" I asked.
"You're holding it, right?" She said as if it were common sense. "Try it on," she said.
I held it up to put it on my ring finger.
"Hmm, right. Cemilian mages wear their catalyst on the middle finger of their non-dominate hand," she said plainly. "The dominant hand is known as the giving hand, and the non-dominate the receiving hand. The middle finger is balanced in the center and represents the bridge between emotions and knowledge; wisdom. It is the longest, seeking truth and understanding, " she spoke as if this was the first of many lessons I would learn.
"Yes, master," I replied.
I swore I saw her smile.
