Every one of my predecessors, every single one wrote of trying to the break the curse; yet none could. At most my predecessors could only slow its progress or pause its for a few centuries.

This same thing was now happening to me.

Each one wrote of slowly losing themselves.

It would start with an emotional numbing, progressing so that only anger remained. Eventually they would lose themselves becoming savage.

Every one before would at first deny the curse, even I did as much. We all would focus on the power that being the Dark One gave us. Whether it was casting spells no other could ever hope to attempt, researching lost, ancient, or even new magic, or simply terrorizing those beneath them they would throw themselves headlong into without a care.

Eventually we woke up to the repercussions of such blatant indifference, seeking frantically a way out, only to fail

My predecessors all sought out candidates, heirs to legacy, to pass on the curse. They couldnt, wouldn't, mustn't let the curse entrench itself too deeper, for if it did the worse would come to pass.

Though that has not happened, I'm living proof of that.
