The 100th Grand Ball, a tradition at the Imperial Palace for the past 99 years, unfolds once again amid the merciless winter months, marking the commencement of the new year.
Each year, a new and unexpected guest is invited, someone reckless enough to stir drama, for they revel in chaos and entertainment.
The more people, the more chaos, the more entertainment.
This year they chose someone. A girl. A girl that no one has ever seen.
The girl that was hidden away from this cruel world. The girl that was rumoured to be lifeless.
That she never felt happiness, sadness, jealousy, lust, fear. That she never experienced anger, envy, joy, guilt.
Yet she was rumoured to be irresistible. Skin glowing like the full moon.
Fox like eyes, so pure and so brown like an abyss into the unknown.
Lips as red and soft as the petals of a rose.
Hair like black curtains blocking out all the light.
Voice like a siren, luring you in till the only thing you're left with is darkness.
Only they know a secret about her that no one else knows about.
"She looks like her mother" someone had once said although no one in the entire empire knew what she looked like.
"She looks like her mother" someone had once said. A mother she never had. A mother that died after 5 yrs of her only daughter being born.
They don't know why they invited her. Maybe it was drama they wanted. An uproar in the ball over a mystery girl.
Or maybe it was curiosity that rose within the seven. Will they be able to bring mystery girl out in the light?
Whatever their reason, their decision was spontaneous.
They questioned themselves. A life long enemy's youngest and only sister?
Did she look like her mother? No one knew. No one dared to ask her brothers.
Does she look pretty? Does she really have lips like a rose petal?
Does she ever come out of the palace? Is she married? Does she have kids?
Is she even alive?
No one knew. The only thing that was known about her was her name, which was carefully written on a pale white paper, put into a dark vermillion envelope and sent across the empire, beyond the country border into enemy territory.
The only thing known for sure was her name.
