~im scared for this chapter. Im locking my doors and windows. pls don't kill me.~
-Start of Chapter 126-
Pain throbs in my limbs as I push myself up from the cold marble floor. My head spins, the taste of iron thick in my mouth. Around me, everyone groans, stirring back to life, bruised but alive. Heeseung and Riki waste no time, scrambling to find Jia, their worried voices overlapping.
"My-My Lady!" sunghoon is by my side within a split second helping me up. "Are you okay?"
Sunoo's worried voice calls out too, "Y/N-ah are you hurt anywhere?"
A cough escapes my throat, still burning from the smoke, "Yes I'm fine."
I look around the room as the rest get up. There's a cacophony of concerned voices outside, but my head throbs a bit too hard for me to care. It seems like in the commotion, some people got hurt due to broken glass and bumping into furnitures.
But no one seems to be too injured...yet.
"Is it those assassin from before, isn't it?" Jake coughs through the remnants fo the smoke.
Riki whose standing next to Jia says, "Yes, most likely. Ugh! What do they want from us?!" anger bursts through his voice.
Jay looks around the room, his eyes following the trail of the smoke, "This is powerful... Even knocking out vampires... Where are they getting these from?"
My eyes fall on Jungwon.
Jungwon moves too. Slowly at first. Then all at once. His eyes scan the room, sharp, searching. His chest rises and falls too fast, too shallow. And then—he freezes.
"Where is Isla?"
No one answers.
Jungwon's gaze snaps to Jia, desperation creeping into his features. "Where the fuck is Isla?!"
Jia flinches, hands shaking as she wipes the blood trickling down her forehead. "I—I don't know," she stammers. "After the assassins attacked, she was with me. She inhaled the smoke, coughing and... passed out. Then I blacked out too." Her voice cracks. "Now she's gone."
Jungwon doesn't move. He doesn't breathe. His face—always so unreadable—breaks into something raw, something terrifying.
Then, without a word, he bolts.
The doors slam open, and the storm swallows him whole.
I've never seen weather like this. The wind howls, carrying the scent of rain and something metallic—blood. The sky is a violent shade of gray, thick clouds swallowing the sun whole. Thunder cracks like a war drum, and the rain falls in heavy sheets, drowning everything in cold.
Lightning slashes across the sky as Jungwon stumbles onto the palace steps. His hair is soaked in seconds, clinging to his forehead, his white cloth plastered to his skin.
His hands shake. His lips part, but no sound comes out.
I've never seen him like this. Never seen him look so—
Lost.
The storm rages on as we rush outside, the rain soaking through our clothes in seconds. The wind howls, whipping at my skin like icy knives. Water drips into my eyes, blurring everything—but I can still see Jungwon, frantic, desperate, spinning in place.
His breaths are ragged, chest rising and falling too fast. He scans the ground, eyes darting over the muddied earth, searching for anything—hoof prints, footprints, a direction—but the rain has washed almost everything away. There are too many tracks, all blending into the mud, fading faster with every second.
