-Start of Chapter 110-

Isla's POV

"You'll be attending to Sir Jungwon for the rest of the week," the head maid says briskly. "The one assigned to him has fallen sick and gone home."

I nod, suppressing the sigh that threatens to escape.

She continues. "You'll still be expected to help in the gardens as usual. So get some rest. You start early, just like the others."

"...Understood" I say quietly.

She gives me a sharp nod before turning away, her footsteps fading down the hall.

I linger for a moment, the weight of her words sinking in. Then, with a slow inhale, I make my way back to the servants' quarters.

The maids room is dimly lit, the soft glow of a single candle flickering on the bedside table. The other maids are already tucked into their beds, their quiet breaths filling the air.

I step inside, closing the door carefully behind me before making my way to my own bed. The moment I sit down, exhaustion washes over me.

With a quiet sigh, I flop back against the mattress, staring up at the wooden beams of the ceiling. My limbs feel heavy, my head stuffed with the remnants of the day.

Tomorrow will be long.

Serving Sir Jungwon is one thing, but the added garden work will make it even harder.

I turn onto my side, pulling the thin blanket over me.

A tickle rises in my throat, and I press my lips together, trying to suppress it.

cough!

I bury my face into the pillow, muffling the sound. The last thing I want is to wake the others.

It's fine.

Just a little chill.

Nothing more.

~~~~~~~
Morning comes too soon.
The faint glow of dawn filters through the small windows, casting long shadows across the dormitory. The air is crisp, carrying the scent of damp earth and fresh morning dew.
I blink sluggishly, my body protesting as I sit up. My limbs feel heavier than usual, my head dull with an ache I try to ignore.
The other maids are already stirring, rubbing the sleep from their eyes as they prepare for the day. I force myself to do the same, swinging my legs over the side of the bed. My limbs feel sluggish, my throat dry from the cold air.
Still, there's no time to dwell on it.
I dress quickly, tying my apron snugly around my waist before heading to the kitchens. The moment I step inside, the head maid barely spares me a glance before handing me a tray.
"Sir Jungwon's breakfast" she says curtly. "Don't be late. He like everything to be on time."
I nod, ignoring the way my fingers feel clumsy around the tray's edges.
