~Not the best ch but oh well~
-Start of Chapter 81-
The world is still cloaked in darkness, though the faintest hint of dawn teases the horizon. The forest feels eerily quiet now, the howls of the night replaced by the occasional rustle of leaves. Everyone is moving with hushed efficiency, the urgency of leaving this cursed place keeping us focused.
The horses are gathered, some already saddled. Heeseung stands to the side, checking a map with Soobin and Yeonjun, their expressions serious as they whisper about the best route to take. Sunghoon is helping Ni-ki secure supplies to one of the horses.
I glance around, my eyes landing on Jungwon. He's sitting on a fallen log, his back straight and his usual composed expression firmly in place.
Except for one detail: the way he hisses softly through his teeth, his hand hovering over a fresh cut on his arm.
"Damn wolves" he mutters under his breath, his tone a mix of annoyance and frustration.
I can't help but roll my eyes. Honestly, for someone so stoic, he can be a bit dramatic sometimes.
Without saying a word, I stride over and flick his forehead—hard enough to get his attention but not enough to hurt.
Jungwon jerks back, his cold, closed-off demeanour shattering as he stares at me, wide-eyed. "What the—"
"Ha!" I smirk, plopping down on the log beside him with an air of triumph. "Told you, betch."
He blinks at me, his expression somewhere between disbelief and indignation. "How dare you flick me!"
"Yah, I'm still older than you," I shoot back, not even looking at him as I dig into my pocket. "Watch your tongue."
That shuts him up, though his flustered expression lingers as I pull out a small tin of ointment that Jay gave me for my own cuts. Without a word, I shove it into his hand.
"Here" I say, still not meeting his gaze. "Use this before your arm falls off or something."
Jungwon stares at the tin like it's some foreign object, then back at me, his face a mix of confusion and gratitude he clearly doesn't know how to express.
"Thank you" he mutters starting to apply the ointment over his cut.
I look at him hoping to continue the conversation but he seems to be in his won world.
Having a normal conversation with Jungwon? Nope. Ain't happening in this lifetime.
Without bothering enough to waste my energy, I push myself off the log dusting off the dirt on my dress.
Just as I'm about to walk towards Sunoo to help him pack up the tents, I hear Jungwon's voice behind me.
"Lady Y/N?"
I look back, "Yes?"
Jungwon sighs, his gaze falling to the floor as he seems to be hesitating before he looks me in the eyes, "How did you know?"
"Hm?"
"How did you know... about the wolves?" he asks, his tone a mix of suspicion and confusion
My lips press into a thin line and for a moment I consider to tell him everything.
But then again, why should I open upto a vampire who I know nothing about other than name.
