-Start of Chapter 136-

A/N POV

Seorin paces the stone corridor like a predator tasting wind. The message reaches her before the words do —  Jungkook, breathless, stumbling into the chamber with eyes wide.

"They're gone." he spits. "She's escaped. The princess—Y/N—she's gone. One of the guards found the cell empty. Along with Prince Sunghoon."

For a beat she stands still, amused more than surprised. Then annoyance sharpens the line of her mouth like a knife.

"Open their shackles." she orders, voice cold and flat.

Black-clad assassins move without question. Iron rings scrape; locks snap. Where the princes had hunched and fought in their chains, they now sit like statues, eyes glassy, limbs slack — the flesh of marionettes waiting for strings.

Seorin steps into the centre of the room. Her crimson gaze sweeps over them slowly, amused. She lifts a hand and the light in the dungeon seems to bend to her will.

"Do they move?" she asks, quietly, as if testing them.

No one answers. Their stillness is the answer.

She smiles, small and terrible.

She steps forward until she is close enough to look each of them in the eye. Her voice drops, silk over steel.

"Remember." she says, quiet and absolute. "Remember what you are. Remember what you owe me. You owe me Y/N"

For a heartbeat their gazes flicker—old selves surfacing, then drowned again—until her crimson light settles on them like a brand. When she speaks the second time, it is an order that leaves no room for mercy.

"Hunt her down" she commands. "Find her. Bring her to me."

The princes move as one, smooth and horrifying. No words, no hesitation—only the soft rasp of leather and the whisper of boots on stone as they melt into the shadows.

Seorin watches them go, a small smile playing at her lips.

"Let's see who reaches her first."

Y/N's POV

Light cuts through the treetops, soft but blinding after so many nights in the dark. It brushes across my face, warm against the cold ache in my skin. I groan, shifting slightly—and freeze when I feel the steady rise and fall of another chest behind me.

I blink the blur from my eyes. I'm still sitting on the horse, my back pressed against Sunghoon's chest. His arm is firm around my waist, one hand holding the reins, the other steadying me every time the horse moves.

The rhythmic clop of hooves fills the air. Morning mist coils over the ground, threading through the trees like silver ribbons.

"Sunghoon?" I whisper, voice rough.

He glances down, his jaw tight with focus. "You're awake."

"Where... are we?"

He doesn't answer at first. His eyes are fixed ahead, the sunlight catching on the edge of his cheekbone. "Through the forest's border" he finally says, quiet but clipped. "We'll be there soon."
