Taylor drove all the way to the hospital and felt how her hands sweat. They got there within 15 minutes and walked inside. They asked a nurse and were quickly taken to the room they'd given you. You were lying there, holding your stomach with your arms.
- "Hello, darling"
- "Mom! Tay! It hurts" you cried.
They both walked closer.
- "I'm so sorry" you said.
Taylor took your hand: - "Baby..." what she was about to say was interrupted by another cry, you felt a sharp pain again and squeezed tightly Taylor's hand. Your mom looked to the nurse who was there:
- "What's happening?" Your mom asked.
- "She's in great pain because of the laxatives she took, I've been trying to get her into an IV but she's refusing so vehemently, she needs the saline solution because she's clearly dehydrated and is only dehydrating as the minutes pass. The doctor is going to be here any minute to talk to you" the nurse replied.
- "Darling..."
- "I need to use the bathroom again" you cried, and the nurse moved to help you out of the bed and take you to the bathroom. Your face showed more pain with every step you took, and you cried while in the bathroom. They all looked at each other sadly.
- "This will probably last for a couple more hours if there's no organ damage, but the doctor will talk to you about it" the nurse said.
The doctor came in and greeted your mom and Taylor, then he started explaining them what he could gather that happened when you came out of the bathroom. Taylor rushed to help you get into bed again.
- "I'm feeling a bit better" you said.
- "That's good. The blood tests results are very deranged, we need to perform other tests to see if there's bowel damage. I was also thinking about taking out the tube for the next hours while we perform the tests, it'll be easier, then, of course reinsert it but we'd like to start rehydration before the tests" the doctor said looking at the nurse, who had the equipment ready to insert a cannula.
You shook your head: - "I don't want a needle stuck in my vein, please, I'll just drink the water"
- "It's not an option, the IV works faster and you're very dehydrated and getting more dehydrated" the doctor said.
You looked between your mom and your sister, their begging eyes: - "Just saline water? No glucose in it?" You asked.
The doctor rolled his eyes: - "I shouldn't be discussing this with you, but I fear that if I don't, we can't rehydrate you" he gasped audibly: - "No. No glucose, just saline water"
You thought about it for some seconds and extended your arm looking at the nurse. The nurse came closer and pinched your arm while you flinched. The doctor asked your mom for a word outside while the nurse worked, and Taylor held your hand.
- "I'm afraid that Elizabeth is very sick. The doctors from the clinic said that she isn't getting any better there...they said they've been trying to get her more medically stable. Even if the tests come back and there's no organ damage, it would be good to try refeeding in here" the doctor said and Andrea said she was going to think about it, because she knew that at the specialized clinic you had support through meals, but therapy as well.
For the next couple of hours your mom and Taylor sat by your side and whispered comforting words every time you said that your stomach hurt, you went to the bathroom three more times. Then the doctor came back to explain that they needed to perform two different tests: a colonoscopy to check your large intestine and rectum and a small intestine endoscopy. He said they were going to sedate you, and you started to cry, not wanting to go through that, but your family and the doctor insisted that it was necessary to check how you were. You ended up agreeing but then the doctor said that the procedures were done by inserting an endoscope with a camera through your mouth and that they needed to remove the nasogastric tube, you started to cry again.
