Annabelle
JUST AS I had told Jeremy, I was back at the lake house the next day. Then the next, and the next, and so on. Carol Lockwood had died the other night, a terrible tragedy, and as much as I wanted to be there for Tyler, I knew Caroline had it covered.
However, I made sure they knew I was just one call away if anything went wrong. I slammed the car door shut, one I had borrowed from my uncle, taking note of how Jeremy and Matt were sparing outside.
Silently, I watched the two spar with a smile on my face. Finally, Jeremy grabbed onto Matt, flipped him older, and held onto his shoulder tightly.
"Okay. I get it. I get it," Matt breathed out, causing Jeremy to release him. "You're a badass."
"You didn't already know that, Donovan?" I asked, a teasing smile planted on my face. Jeremy's gaze snapped up to meet mine, a grin erupting on his face.
"Annabelle," Jeremy greeted, running up to kiss me.
"I like the new look," I commented when we broke apart, glancing down at the white tank top.
"Thanks," Jeremy said before turning towards Damon. "Did you see that?"
"Couldn't miss it," Damon replied, not bothering to meet Jeremy's eyes. "It was in slow motion."
"I think you did a wonderful job," I complimented, standing between him and Matt.
"Yeah, a wonderful job breaking a bone in my arm," Matt said, rolling his eyes as he rubbed his elbow.
"Then teach me something useful," Jeremy shot back, speaking to Damon. "We've been here for days and so far all you've done is bark orders."
"Damon's good at that. All talk, no action," I said. Damon, however, didn't seem fazed at my comment, but it did get him to look at us. More specifically, Jeremy.
"Okay," Damon shrugged, grabbing a wooden stake. He flipped it in his hands, seeming to be trying to show off his strength. "Take a seat at the bench, quarterback. You too, birdie. Karate kid wants a shot at the title."
"Jeremy, you're not ready for this," Matt protested as I tugged on his arm, trying to get him to move towards the tables. Damon threw the wooden stake, which Jeremy easily caught.
"Come on, let him have his fun," I said, nudging him with my arm. "Don't be a party pooper."
I quickly ate my words as Jeremy ran at Damon, swinging the wooden stake at him. "Go, Jeremy!" I screamed, but quickly quieted down as Damon ducked, using his speed to turn Jeremy around. Damon wrapped an arm around Jeremy's throat effortlessly. "Don't go, Jeremy..."
"Now, all I have to do is apply a little pressure under your jaw," Damon said calmly as Jeremy choked on air. Suddenly, a car pulled up; a pizza car, to be exact. "Really? Again?"
