Annabelle

ELENA WATCHED WITH pure terror on her face as Stefan drained the life from the boy's face. Nik walked around me, leaning closer to Elena's ear. "It's always nice to see a vampire in his true element. The species has become such a broody lot."

"No. You did this to him," Elena said, eyes locked onto Stefan.

"I invited him to the party, love," Nik shrugged as Stefan wiped some of the blood onto the back of his hand. "He's the one dancing on the table."

Suddenly, the doors leading inside the school opened with a clang and my aunt came storming in. "Where is it? Where's my necklace?" Bekah demanded to know.

"What are you talking about?" Nik asked confused.

"She has my necklace," Bekah accused, phone in hand as she shoved it toward Nik. "Look!"

"Elena, you just got yourself in deep crap," I whispered to the girl as my uncle looked up from the phone.

"Well, well. More lies," Nik commented.

"Where is it?" Bekah asked through gritted teeth.

"Tell them, Elena, and this is all over," I told the girl. Elena looked between the three of us, contemplating what to say before she answered.

"I don't have it anymore," Elena said.

"You're lying!" Bekah snapped, jumping at her and biting into her neck.

"No!" I yelled, pushing my aunt off as she let Elena drop to the ground. Nik stepped forward, getting into Bekah's face.

"Knock it off!" Nik yelled at her.

"Make her tell me, Nik!" Bekah yelled back. It was something I hated about our family, all the constant yelling. Nik, with chest heaving and an angry look on his face, turned back toward Elena, crouching down to her level.

"Where's the necklace, sweetheart?" Nik asked, deadly calm. "Be honest."

"I'm telling the truth," Elena whimpered, hand pressed against the side of her neck. "Katherine stole it."

"Goddamn Katherine," I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms over my chest. I was surprised when nobody commented on my language usage, though now really wouldn't have been the best time.

"Katerina," Nik breathed in deeply before continuing. "Of course." He pushed himself up. "Well, that's unfortunate. If we had the necklace, it would make things a whole lot easier for your witch but since we're doing this the hard way, let's put a clock on it, shall we?"

"Clock on what?" I questioned, confused as he pressed a button to start the timer in the gym.

"Twenty minutes. If Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then, I want you to feed again, only this time, I want you to feed on Elena," Nik said, looking directly at Stefan before turning his head toward Elena. "You know you want to."
