Annabelle
THE NEXT DAY, Caroline ended up picking me up to go to the woods with Tyler. How I got roped into this, I still had no idea. However, the question of why I was doing this was a better one.
Since I was younger than the two in human years, I got stuck sitting in the backseat. Of course, I complained and stuck my tongue out at Tyler.
I was happy when Caroline pulled up to a clearing in the woods, by the cellar, and I could finally stretch. I climbed out of the car, my bones popping as I did. "Finally, I can stand up."
Tyler rolled his eyes at me as he got out of the car. "We've been in the car for barely ten minutes."
"Ten minutes too long," I shot back. Caroline popped the trunk, still in the driver's seat.
"You know, maybe he just, like stopped to go surf somewhere," Caroline said suddenly, turning to see us while Tyler grabbed the new chains out of the trunk. We both knew she was referring to Mason. "Isn't that Mason's whole thing?"
"Maybe," Tyler replied. Caroline finally climbed out of the car, moving to stand beside me. "This girl just seemed to think he would have called." Ah yes, Mason's good friend who showed up at the Lockwood house.
"I'm sure he's okay," Caroline said, attempting to ease Tyler's nerves.
"Me too. Who knows, he's probably off doing something stupid," I agreed with Caroline, however; my stupid comment earned me an elbow in the side. I looked over at her with a glare but was ignored.
"Yeah," Tyler said, slinging a heavy bag over his shoulder. Caroline and I had one too, preparing for the full moon. "Anyway...let's do this."
The three of us set off towards the cellar, which was creepy, in my opinion. Tyler set his bag down in the middle of the room, while I let mine fall to the floor. He quickly unzipped it, pulling at chains as he attached it to the hooks on the wall.
"Are we certain this will hold you?" I questioned, watching as Tyler tugged on the chains to make sure they were steardy.
"No, but I sure hope it does. Did you bring the wolfsbane, Caroline?"
"Yes," Caroline nodded, moving to grab it out of her bag. "Not an easy herb to find." She pulled it out of a baggie, holding it up as I twisted the cap off a water bottle. "This is it."
Tyler reached out to touch his, crying out when his fingers began to burn, sizzling. I rolled my eyes at him before commenting, "And here I was thinking you couldn't get any stupider. Why would you touch a herb that you know is supposed to hurt you?"
"Just testing it's true," Tyler replied as I held out the open water bottle, letting Caroline set the herb in it. "The guy at the hardware store said this setup was rated up to 5,000 pounds."
