Annabelle
I YAWNED AS I awoke, panicking slightly as I realized I wasn't in my bed at home. Then, all the memories of my encounter yesterday came flooding back. My backpack contained a few articles of clothing and I quickly changed, wanting to get out of my pajamas before entering the real world and going to travel around this town. One thought was stuck in my mind and that was Stefan. No matter what I did, I couldn't shake the feeling that I knew him. I just didn't know how.
Hesitantly, I ran a hand down through my hair before exiting the room, jumping when I noticed Damon standing outside. "What are you doing?" I asked, taking a step back as he smirked at me.
"Making sure you don't try to attack us," Damon said, shrugging like it was obvious. Once again, he had another glass of alcohol in his hand. I swear, this dude was an alcoholic or something. "Stefan may have let you in, but we don't trust you."
"Okay?" I said but it came out like a question. "I don't trust you either. Thanks for not killing me though, sunshine." I pushed past the taller man, my backpack slung over my shoulder. "Now I've got to go get some food."
"Food as in human food or food as in blood?" Damon asked, trailing after me.
"Human food," I confirmed before glancing around as I came downstairs. "Where's Stefan?"
"School."
"Oh." I didn't say anymore as I headed for the door. However, Damon stopped me, managing to get in front of me within five seconds, his hand moving to rest on the door.
"Why do you smell human?" Damon questioned, an eyebrow arched as he waited for an answer.
"I don't know," I shrugged, being completely honest. Most people mistook me for a human, but quickly found out I was a vampire.
"If I were to have a little," Damon trailed off, his eyes flickering to my neck. "Would you taste human?"
"Probably, but I'd never let your nasty mouth near my veins," I said snarkily, a smug grin appearing on my face. I tried to shove past him, wanting to go explore Mystic Falls, but he grabbed my arm tightly.
"I don't trust you," Damon stated.
"Like that isn't obvious. Besides, you already said that," I said with a roll of my eyes. "Though I did nothing to break your trust."
"You also did nothing to earn in." Damon's eyebrow arched as he peered down at me, interest swarming his eyes. "I need to know, are you from the tomb?"
I sighed, remembering he mentioned something about this tomb yesterday. "What tomb?" His grip on my arm tightened, clearly not believing I had no idea what he was talking about.
"Don't act dumb."
"Look," I ripped my arm from his grip. "I don't know what the hell you're talking about, but leave me alone. I'm not from a tomb and I'm not here to harm you or Stefan, so just let me go." Damon didn't reply but allowed me to push past him. However, I paused on the porch, looking back at Damon, who was standing in the doorway. "Well, thanks for letting me stay, I guess. I'm going to go get a hotel or something."
"Have fun," Damon called out as I left, walking around until I was in town. I had managed to find a street after wandering for about ten minutes, which then led me into town. My phone kept buzzing in my pocket, annoying the crap out of me. After what felt like the hundredth ring, I finally picked it up.
"Leave me alone," I warned the person, not wanting to deal with them.
"I just wanted to know you were safe, love," my uncle's voice came through the phone.
"Well, I'm safe. I've got your credit card for food and shelter, a hospital near me, I'm sure, for blood," I explained as I walked down the street, towards what looked like a motel.
"Did you pack your teddy bear?" My face flushed at the mention of the old thing.
"Don't say it like that," I snapped. "You make me sound like a child." My uncle chuckled on the other end.
"You are a child," my uncle shot back. I tried not to smile, reminding myself I was mad at him. "You should not be off on your own. Certainly not with your blood control being so awful."
"Okay, well, I'm safe so you can hang up now. And I assure you, my blood control is perfectly fine. Actually, it would have been better if you let my father continue helping me but instead, you put him to sleep."
"I warned him, he knew of the consequences." There was a silence over the phone and for a second, I thought he had hung up. "Just, call if you need anything, okay?"
"I will," I said before hanging up, pausing outside the motel. The place didn't look like the crappiest thing ever, but it wasn't the best.
As much as I wanted to, I refused to go back to Stefan's house. Neither of us trusted each other and I didn't want them to come stake me in the middle of the night, so I settled for this.

I spent my night at a place called the Grill, sitting at the bar with a lemonade. The bartender refused to serve me alcohol and I felt too bad to compel him, so I opted for the sugary drink.
"I got home and you were gone," a voice sounded behind me; it was Stefan.
"Yeah, no offense but I don't exactly trust that you won't kill me," I said with a chuckle as he sat beside me. "I don't even know why you helped me in the first place."
"You're a kid. I wasn't just going to let you stay outside with those vampires running around. Besides, I'm intrigued by you," Stefan admitted. I gave him a confused look. "You smell human."
"Yeah," I nodded, recalling that I had already gone through this conversation with Damon.
"That's not possible. To be a vampire you have to die. Therefore you shouldn't have any human elements, including smell," Stefan pointed out. I looked over at him, debating on how much I wanted to tell him. My lips parted as I went to talk but then stopped, trying to figure out the right words to tell him.
"My parents were humans when I was conceived, but right before my mom went into labor, she was turned. Maybe that could play a roll in why I have human qualities. But it's as simple as that. If you want to get technical, I am a full vampire but I possess some of the qualities of a human. I crave human food and I heal much slower," I said with a shrug. There was more to it, that much I knew, but I was not about to spill all my secrets to him. "Truth be told, I wish I knew more to tell you but I have no idea why I'm how I am."
"So are you still ageing?"
I looked over at Stefan with a hesitant look. I didn't trust him and wasn't sure if I should be telling him as much as I was. "No, I stopped once I triggered my vampire side."
"There's more to it, isn't there?" Stefan asked me. I looked down at my drink, taking a sip before meeting his eyes.
"We all got secrets we want to keep in the past," I said with a shrug. My eyes met a brunette, who was looking at us with a questioning look. "Uhm, I think your girlfriend is a little...upset. Or sister, not that I'm assuming."
"She's my girlfriend," Stefan assured me with a laugh. "Defientally not my sister." We shared a laugh before I nudged him.
"You should go over there before she gets upset," I urged him.
"You're welcome to join," Stefan said with a small smile. He looked like he generally cared, which was comforting.
"That's alright. I've got to get back to the motel I'm staying at. I think I'm going to enroll in school. Might as well make the best of it while I can, right?"
"Right," Stefan confirmed. He patted my shoulder before heading back over to his girlfriend.
