Annabelle

UPON HEARING THE chatter settle down downstairs, I deemed it calm enough to go down for a blood bag. I stayed quiet as I passed the room Nik and the hunter were previously in, only pausing when I saw a head rolling towards me; a decapitated one at that.

Slwoly, I looked up to see that the hunter had broken free. "Well...." I trailed off, meeting his eyes. "This is fun. I think I'm going to run now."

I'll admit, he was fast. Faster than I would have imagined and he easily caught up to me. I struggled against him as he slammed me against the wall. For a human--or whatever creature you classify a hunter as--he was immensely strong. His hands cut off my windpipe. "Get. Off." I kicked him in the stomach hard enough to send him stumbling back.

While he had his moment of weakness, I took off outside. I took a sharp left, diving into the forest so I could use the trees as cover. Eventually, after running for a few solid moments, I paused. My eyes shifted around the area as I spun in a circle, looking for the hunter.

He was nowhere to be seen, thank god. My mind wondered where my uncle was but he was probably off doing scary hybrid things. Eventually, with a heavy sigh, I made my way back to the house. It was dark out so my senses were on overload.

My phone was in my pocket, quickly clicked on Nik's contact. It didn't take him long to answer, seeing as it was me calling. "What is it, love?"

"The hunter got out," I informed him, wrapping an arm around my stomach as I glanced around the forest.

"What?" Nik exclaimed, a hint of annoyance laced in his voice. "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine, I got out before he could do any real damage," I told him, brushing a tree branch away from my eyes. "I'm heading back to the house now. I think he's gone. I'm sorry, I couldn't stop him."

"Your safety is more important," Nik declared after a moment of silence. "I'll be home in a bit. Get some rest and blood in you."

"I will," I nodded. By now I could see the house and approached with caution, eyes searching for the hunter. I pushed the front door open slowly to see if he was going to come charging at me or something. "I just got back to the house. Looks like he's gone so I'm going to go."

"Call me if you feel unsafe," Nik said sternly. I nodded before realizing he couldn't see me.

"I will. Bye, I love you."

"Goodbye, Annabelle." He must have been with people, he doesn't usually say goodbye if he's around someone. It has to do with his pride, I believe.

The next morning, I was walking back from the coffee shop when I got an alarming text from Jeremy. I had been added to a group chat.

Hunter at Mystic Grill with hostages. They all die at sundown.
