Annabelle

"STOP IT," I glared at Kol as his gaze flickered around the room, flirtatiously smiling at any woman who looked in his direction.

"I have no idea what you are talking about, Annie," Kol said innocently, his heavy accent seeping through.

"Stop smiling at every girl and eying them like they're a piece of meat," I told him, smoothing out my dress. "Shit! I spilled juice on my dress." Luckily, it was such a small speckle that it was hard to tell, but I knew it was there. My family had already disapproved of it, though they always wanted to keep me in a nun suit when we had balls like this. Too many eyes on me, they claimed.

"Such filthy words," Kol laughed, lightly bumping my shoulder. "Now, now, what would your father say if I told him? You know he doesn't like you cursing."

I opened my mouth to say something but instead saw my best friend talking with my Uncle, who seemed like a lost puppy as she pushed past him. "You know what, go talk to the mayor you've been eying but play nice."

"I'm always nice, darling!" Kol called after me as I departed from him, muttering 'excuse me' to people as I passed them. On my way over to Caroline, I swung past the area with champaign glasses, swiping two off of them. Goodness knows I'll need them after this night.

"Care, hey," I greeted the blond, offering her a glass. She gratefully took it, taking a large sip.

"Belle, thank god you're here," Caroline breathed out a sigh of relief. "Will you tell your uncle to leave me alone? It's bad enough he already got me this dress and bracelet-"

"Bracelet?" I furrowed my eyebrows as she held up her hand, showing it to me. I realized it wasn't any ordinary bracelet, in fact, it was one of the many family heirlooms. I gently took her wrist in my grasp, examining it. "Care, that's not just any bracelet."

"What do you mean?" Caroline asked, looking at me with confusion swarming in her eyes.

"It's a family heirloom," I explained, watching her face change to one of shock. In order to ease her nerves, I smiled up at her. "It looks beautiful on you, though."

"Thanks," Caroline said quietly, observing the diamonds on her wrist. After staring at it for a moment, she shook her head and looked up at me. "Did you manage to find a date? You know, with Jeremy gone and all."

"Nope," I said, drawing my lips into a straight line. "I can't believe they compelled him out of Mystic Falls because they believed my uncle would hurt him. They had to have known I wouldn't have let that happen."

Caroline offered me a light smile, linking my arm through hers. "You can always visit."

"Visit?" I laughed as we slowly walked around the large area. My gaze flickered around, watching my family mingle with others. I lowered my voice so it was less likely for them to hear. "If I were to visit, they'd go all overprotective, follow me, then slowly kill Jeremy so I think I'm quite well with the long distance."
