Annabelle

I SAT DOWNSTAIRS for a while, chilling on the couch and reading a random book that was left out before Jeremy came downstairs to find me. "Hey, why did you disappear like that? We were waiting for you to come back up."

I moved my feet, shifting so they were planted on the ground. Since I was no longer lying over the whole couch, Jeremy took a seat beside me. I shrugged, not meeting his eye. "I figure you want some alone time to gaze into her eyes."

"What?" Jeremy looked utterly confused, unsure what I was getting at.

"Don't play dumb." I rolled my eyes at his actions.

"I'm not," Jeremy seemed genuinely surprised that I had said that. "What's wrong?'

"What's wrong?" I scoffed. This man seriously had the audacity to ask what was wrong. "Jeremy, I've been sitting up there for as long as Bonnie has and all you've done is focus on her. It's like I'm a ghost in a room with you guys! I get it, Bonnie was hurt but you could at least acknowledge my presence. It was uncomfortable sitting up there with you two."

"Is that why you're jealous? Because of Bonnie?"

"I'm not jealous," I snapped. "I don't care what you guys are, but I don't want to be stuck in a room with two people who pretend I'm not there."

"We're not pretending you're not there," Jeremy said slowly and I wasn't sure if he was trying to assure himself or me. He moved to grab my hand but I pulled away from him.

"Whatever," I pushed myself to my feet. "I can't do this right now. Look, I'm sure Elena's fine and you certainly don't need my help, so I'm just going to go home." I closed the book I was holding, setting it on the end table before standing up.

"Woah, wait!" Jeremy jumped to his feet, scurrying after me. "You can't just leave."

"I can and I am," I replied, grabbing my shoes that I had kicked off by the front door. "Look, you're a great guy Jeremy and it's clear you like her, so just go for it. Ask her out, but I don't want to be here for that when all you can focus on is Bonnie."

"You don't even have a ride home," Jeremy argued, following me down his sidewalk. He was like a lost puppy dog trying to find its bone. "At least let me drive you."

"I don't need one," I shrugged, turning to face him as I walked backward. "I'm a vampire, remember?"

Jeremy didn't get another chance to process what was happening before I was gone, already done with this conversation. Maybe I was overreacting, I realize that now, but I didn't want to be the second choice when he was always my first choice.

"Elena got back alright?" I asked when Damon and Stefan got home. Damon instantly went toward the alcohol while Stefan leaned against the wall.
