Annabelle
THE FOLLOWING MORNING, I ended up going on a walk at a human pace. I wanted to visit Caroline in the hospital but also clear my head. Besides, afterwards, I had to help set up for the big carnival happening at the school tonight. Last night Damon had killed Jeremy, though Jeremy's magic ring brought him back to life, thankfully.
"Knock knock," I announced my presence as I entered the room. Caroline was sitting in the bed, staring at the wall blankly. She looked... worried. "What's wrong? Worrying about the carnival? I promise after I leave here I will make sure it's perfect for you."
"Shut the door," Caroline told me and I gave her a confused look, tilting my head slightly.
"What?"
"Shut the door," Caroline repeated and I did as I was told, slowly making my way towards her hospital bed.
"Jeez, Care, you could at least let some light into your den," I commented, moving towards the windows. When I went to tug the curtains open, Caroline began screaming at me, which surprised me. I jumped, my hands moving away from the partially cracked window. "What is going on?"
Caroline was sat on the edge of the bed, cowering away from the light. Her knees were pulled up to her chest, though she looked ready to move at any moment. When her gaze finally met mine, she looked broken. Her voice wobbled as she said my name. "A-Annabelle."
"I'm here, Caroline," I said quietly, moving to sit beside her on the bed. I rested my hand on her shoulder gently. I figured that maybe she was in pain, but physically she seemed fine. "What's wrong?"
She was crying now, scrubbing at the tears trailing down her face. "I-I didn't want to."
"Didn't want to what?" I asked, beyond confused at this point.
"I didn't want to be a vampire," Caroline snapped and my face fell at her words. As far as I was aware, she wasn't a vampire.
"You're not," I said slowly, trying to wrap my head around what she was going to say next.
Caroline sniffled, wiping a stray tear. "I am. E-Elena killed me, Annabelle."
Realization dawned on me. "That wasn't Elena. It was her bitch doppelganger, Katherine."
"I'm not sure if that makes it better or not," Caroline admitted.
"You know your best friend didn't betray you," I offered, setting my hand on her shoulder. "Have you gone through the transition yet?"
Caroline nodded in reply. "L-last night there was a blood bag. I drank it all," she explained. "I found another blood bag this morning but it's been a couple of hours since I had any and my fangs have come through.
"Okay, uhm, well, how do you feel?"
"Hungry," Caroline admitted, pulling her legs up to her chest. "I took a bite from my nurse this morning."
