Annabelle

LATER THAT EVENING, I had been chilling in my room at the Salvatore house when I heard voices. It was Elena talking, though by the time I had picked up on the conversation, I had only heard the end.

I crept downstairs slowly, feeling as if I was interrupting something. To be fair, I was eavesdropping. There was something about Elena being selfish and then she told Stefan it was over, giving him one less kiss before leaving.

"Stefan," I whispered his name as tears poured down his face. "Hey, it's okay."

Stefan looked up at me with a broken look settled on his face. "I love her."

I gave Stefan a sad smile as I stepped forward, pulling my sleeve over my hand and gently whipping Stefan's tears. New ones appeared quickly, so fast I wasn't able to wipe them all.

"It's gonna be okay," I shushed Stefan as I pulled him into my arms. His large build swamped me as his arm wrapped around my petite frame. I rubbed his back as he cried, sobs wracking his body. "Come on, to the couch." He allowed me to lead him over. I sat beside him while he pressed his palms to his eyes.

"Do you want anything? A bunny, bourbon, anything?" Stefan didn't reply, instead sniffling loudly. "Okay, okay. A hug it is." I wrapped my arms around his shoulders. My cheek pressed into his shoulder.

He was broken without Elena and I had no idea to help. Instead, I let my arms hold onto him as he cried, attempting to give him as much comfort as possible.

After about twenty minutes, his cries finally died down. "I'll be right back," I told Stefan, who had yet to even look at me. There was a tub of chocolate ice cream in the freezer, something I had convinced Stefan to buy me last week. I loved human food even if I wasn't exactly human. Since I was a kid, whenever there was a treat waiting for me, I always wanted to wait for the right time to eat it. Right now felt like the perfect time so I tore open the lid and grabbed two spoons.

When I returned to the living room, Stefan was leaning back on the couch, staring off into space. "What is that?" Stefan's voice was hoarse as he spoke.

"Chocolate ice cream," I told him excitedly, sitting beside him. I dug the metal spoon into the hard ice cream, attempting to scoop some out. A loud gasp escaped my mouth as the spoon snapped in half, the bottom part stuck into the chocolate goodness.

Stefan burst out laughing at the sight of my mouth a gape and a broken spoon. "I'm sorry, I hate to break it to you, El, but I don't exactly love ice cream."

"Oh, right," My cheeks flushed red as I gave him a dorky smile. "I enjoy human food but I forgot not everyone does. Nonetheless, we can still have fun doing other things."

"Like what?" Stefan asked, tilting his head to the side.

"Uhm, I don't know," I admitted. "How about we go to the grill and get blackout drunk?"
