Annabelle

ELENA WAS BEING stubborn and didn't seem to want to leave but Jeremy would never forgive me if I left her here. Well, maybe he would because Elena wouldn't be dead seeing as Alaric didn't desperately want to kill her.

"He'll wake soon," Esther said as Elena tore her hand away from me, collapsing next to Ric as she pulled the stake from him. "When he does, he may for a time be his old self. If so, you can say your goodbyes before his transition is complete."

"Perfect, that will give us enough time to get out of here," I said, emphasizing the us part. I crossed my arms over my chest, impatiently pacing. She offered Elena a napkin and she took it, scrubbing the blood of her hands.

"You said you wanted to undo the evil that you created, but this...this is just as evil," Elena snapped.

"I tried to warn you," I commented, shrugging. "I told you she was evil."

"Alaric will never be what my children became," Esther said.

"Are you forgetting that I'm your granddaughter, making me just as much a monster as my father, uncles, and aunt?" I asked, impatiently tapping my foot.

Esther sighed, looking over at me. "You, darling, could never be evil. You've got such a kind soul, it's a miracle no one has killed you yet."

"Well, technically, they have," I snarkily said.

"But I shouldn't have created the curse that turned you all," Esther continued. "I have granted Alaric enough power to complete his task. Then, when the time is right, he will die."

"How?" Elena asked, her voice shaking as she peered up at Esther. "How, if he's immortal?"

"All you need to know is that when this is over, we will have rid the earth of vampires once and for all," Esther informed us.

"So, this is it? You really don't care like you claim you do. You're just going to let me die because you believe our family is an abomination," I sneered, glaring at the woman that I used to call grandma.

"I have given you every opportunity to run," Esther said calmly. "You could leave right now, postpone your death. You are the one choosing to stay her."

"You'll be killing the good along with the bad," Elena commented, drawing Esther's attention back to her. She pushed herself to her feet as she continued glaring at Esther. "You're no better than Klaus."

"Am I not?" Esther actually looked slightly offended, her eyes wide as they darkened. "I desire a world where you and your loved ones will not suffer at the hands of vampires like your aunt Jenna did."

"Still a vampire in the room," I muttered.

"Don't you dare us Jenna as an excuse for what you've done," Elena told her through gritted teeth. She took one cautious step forward.
