After Elena interrupted Jeremy and I, I set off to find Stefan

After Elena interrupted Jeremy and I, I set off to find Stefan.  However, after looking for a solid ten minutes, I gave up. Instead, I managed to find Damon. "Hey," I set my hand on his arm, alerting him of my presence as he talked to the mayor.

"Can I help you, Annabelle?" Damon asked me, forcing a fake smile on his face.

"Have you seen Stefan?" I questioned while the mayor looked at me curiously.

"No, it is not my job to keep track of my little brother," Damon said in a calm manner, it was actually more annoying than scary.

"Right," I nodded, letting go of his arm. As I turned to leave, the mayor stopped me.

"Are you new to Mystic Falls?"

"Uhm," I turned back around, facing the pair once more. "Yeah, I am. I just moved back here last week and the Salvator brothers have been kind enough to let me stay at their house."

"I'm Carol Lockwood." The mayor stuck her hand out, waiting for me to shake.

"Annabelle Denvor," I said politely, shaking her hand.

"Well, it's nice to meet you," the mayor said.

"You too." I glanced down as my phone began to ring, cutting my introduction short. "Sorry, I would stay and talk but I must take this."

"Of course, go ahead," Carol told me, offering me a warm smile. I nodded, waving as I left before pressing the phone to my ear. It was an unknown caller.

"Who is this? I swear, Nik if you've-"

"Who's Nik?" Jeremy's voice could be heard on the other end, instantly making me relax.

"Sorry, just a distant relative," I said as I pressed a finger to my ear, the one that didn't have my phone pressed to it. The crowd was large now for such a small town and I had to weave through it in order to make it outside. "About time you called me."

Jeremy chuckled. "You can't really blame me, I have spent some time with you in person recently."

"True," I nodded even though he couldn't see me. "Why are you calling me anyway? You could have easily found me here."

"Actually, I went home," Jeremy alerted me. I tipped my head to the side in confusion, which had become a habit. "I found some news that someone close to me has been lying and I just, I wanted some company. Someone who I can actually talk to without her being caught up in the mess."

"Are you, Jeremy Gilbert, inviting me over?" I asked with a cheeky grin on my face. "If you wanted to see me again you could have just asked." It was weird, I was oddly confident with Jeremy yet shy at the same time.

"Maybe I am," Jeremy said, though we both knew it was for his comfort. "I just thought that maybe we could talk, get to know each other. I just don't feel like dealing with my sister right now."
