Annabelle

"WHAT TOOK YOU so long?" Nik asked, drawing my attention to my aunt, who had just stepped into the room with a stake.

"Alaric didn't want to hand over the stake," Bekah said, holding it up for him to see. "Luckily I'm quite the charmer."

Nik grinned, looking over at her. "That's it?"

"Last of the White Oak states that can kill us," Bekah confirmed and I cheered, doing my happy dance.

"Let's burn that thing then," I said, smiling brightly.

"Right, you can do the honors, beauty," Bekah said, passing the stake to me. I smirked, moving away from the painting Nik had just given me. I threw the stake in the small smile we had going, watching it slowly burn. "Bye, bye, bitch."

"Language, Annabelle," Nik warned me as he worked on his latest painting, brush lightly moving against the colorful canvas.

"Well, that's that, then," Bekah smirked.

"Pack your bags. We're leaving," Nik announced as she moved to leave.

"What?" My head snapped to look at him.

"Today?" Bekah questioned.

"Why not? There's nothing keeping us here," Nik said, though his eyes never left his painting. "We'll grab the doppelganger and be off by sunset."

"But tonight's the decade dance," Bekah protested, disappointment clear on his face.

"So?"

"So I'm head of the committee," Bekah explained. "We have to go."

"I'm not going to any dance," Nik protested firmly.

"And I'm not leaving Mystic Falls," I snapped. "And you're not touching Elena."

"Now, now, is that any way to speak to your uncle?" Nik asked, raising an eyebrow at my behavior. "I don't need you throwing another one of your fits."

"It's not a fit!" I yelled, throwing my hands up in the air. Nik only looked at me, his expression not changing.

"I stand by my point," he said.

"Caroline will be at the dance," Bekah chimed in suddenly. Instantly, his look changed as he pretended to feel nothing for my friend.

"That means nothing to me," Nik said, though it was clear he cared.

"Please? I have big plans for tonight?" Bekah begged, pouting ever so slightly. "Just go for me?"

Nik walked over until there was only a short distance between them. Finally, he gave in. "Okay, fine. One last hurrah."

"One last hurrah, Nik," Bekah confirmed, a happy smile on her face as she left.
