Annabelle

SINCE CAROLINE AND her mom allowed me to stay with them, Caroline roped me into going on errands with her. Our first stop was the Grill to see Matt, where I awkwardly stood leaning against the bar, before making our way to the hospital. Apparently, Tyler's mom had been injured yesterday and Caroline wanted to check in on her.

"Caroline, do I really have to go with you to see Matt again? It's so awkward just standing there while you talk," I complained, hearing the beep of her car as she locked it.

"Yes, I need your emotional support in case things go wrong," Caroline said but froze, looking ahead of us. I looked away from my blonde friend, my eyes locking on Tyler Lockwood and his wolf friend, who I despised. When he got back in town, I had no clue.

"Tyler?" Caroline sounded surprised, almost as surprised as Tyler looked. "Jules."

"You shouldn't be here," I warned Jules and she merely rolled her eyes, looking at Tyler.

"I'll give you a few minutes," Jules told the boy.

"Thank you."

"Just a few, Tyler."

"I got it." Thankfully, she walked off to her car after hearing confirmation from Tyler.

"Well, I'm going to go stand against the wall a few feet away and pretend I can't hear you," I told the pair, moving away to give them 'privacy.'

"She's just making sure I'm safe," Tyler informed Caroline, who nodded slightly.

"So what, are you.." Caroline trailed off, sounding annoyed at the possibility. "You two, like, friends now?"

"She's been helping me," Tyler replied, smart enough not to say what Caroline didn't want to hear. "How are you?"

"I heard about your mom. I just came to check in on her," Caroline explained, though she didn't need to.

"She's banged up, but she'll be okay," Tyler nodded and Caroline let out a sigh.

"And you? Um, how's everything with you?" Caroline asked. It was clear she still had feelings for him. You'd be blind if you couldn't see it.

"I'm hanging in there," Tyler replied. Without even looking at me, Tyler said, "How are you, Annabelle?"

"Meh," I shrugged and he finally turned his head. "All my friends hate me so there's that, but other than that, I'm good."

Tyler offered a small smile as I pushed off the wall, returning to Caroline's side. "Jeremy included?" I grinned, knowing Tyler probably remembered all my Jeremy rants.

"He's dating Bonnie now," I said, trying to shrug it off like it was no big deal, but Tyler saw through me.

"I'm sorry," he offered, giving me a look of pity. "He's missing out."
