Annabelle
I DID IN fact clean up but my dress was stained, so I ended up leaving. People would question if they saw my blood-soaked dress and I just wasn't feeling this pageant.
"You looked beautiful today, love," my uncle's voice snapped me from my thoughts. I was sitting on my bed, reading a book.
"Thanks," I offered a small smile, looking up at him. "I wish Dad could have been there to see me."
"I'm sure he feels the same," Nik nodded, a thin canvas in his hand. I arched an eyebrow upon noticing it.
"What's that?" I questioned, pointing towards it. Nik smiled brightly, coming to sit beside me.
"I know how much you've missed our family. All of us as one," Nik began, offering me the canvas. I took it, observing it closely. "So I painted a moment for you to remember forever. Whenever you miss one of us, you can look at this and reminisce on how things used to be."
"This is beautiful," I said quietly, trialing my finger down Kol's painted face. I sat it on the bed beside me, throwing my arms around his neck. He seemed surprised at the quick movement but easily masked it, hugging me back. "Thank you, Uncle Nik."
"No need to thank me," Nik chuckled, his chest rumbling under me. "I only did what I thought would make you happy."
"Thank you anyways." I pulled away from him, turning to prop up the painting on my nightstand, allowing it to lean against my books.
"You should get some sleep," Nik told me, eyes flickering over to my alarm clock.
"Right," I nodded, watching as he hovered in my doorway. Slwoly, he turned back to me. "What is it?"
"Do you happen to have any more stakes?" Nik's eyes narrowed at me as a surprised look cross over my face, followed by an annoyed one.
"Jeremy told you," I sighed loudly.
"In a way," Nik said before adding. "He gave me a stake and told me to keep it away from you, I filled in the blank. I must say that is about the only time I could tolerate that Gilbert boy."
"Don't tell Dad, please," I begged, giving him my puppy dog eyes.
"Please, he'd kill me if I hid something like that from him," Nik said, rolling his eyes. "Your puppy dog eyes don't work on me."
"You can't die," I reminded him, though he didn't seem to care.
"He knows, Annabelle, but I convinced him to stay away from here," Nik said, causing a feeling of relief to wash over me. "But that does not me he won't be calling more often, nor does it mean he won't be coming back soon."
My shoulders sagged at the news before I reluctantly said, "I don't have any more daggers."
"Good." Nik neatly tucked his hands behind him. "Good night, then."
