Annabelle

AFTER ALARIC LAID out all his hunting gear, which he used to hunt vampires, we made a plan. Alaric was going to go in alone, Damon following after with me, standing watch to make sure Alaric got out alright.

My hair stuck to my face as it immediately became soaked. I stood in the tree lines, watching as Alaric made his way inside, rubbing his cold hands together. I didn't even need to strain my ears to hear the music blaring, Damon standing on the back porch now.

I couldn't hear what they were saying without using my vampire hearing, but I watched as Damon snapped the poor old lady's neck. Alaric shuffled out of the house quickly, making his way towards me. He jogged across the small opening, careful not to get caught.

"You get back to the car," I ordered quietly as he stood beside me. I had a vervain-filled dart gripped tightly in my hand, ready to use if I needed to. "I'm going to stay here and make sure Damon doesn't need help."

"That's not the plan," Alaric commented but I ignored him, giving him a slight shove.

"I know but I actually care about Stefan," I said. Alaric paused, not seeming content with my answer.

"Why? Didn't you just meet him?"

I took a deep breath, careful not to lose control, the only scent hitting me being Alaric's blood. "Ask me again later."

"Fine," Alaric said, easily giving in as he began to move back through the forest. He was gone for a few minutes while I crouched beside a tree, using my vampire hearing to listen for anything out of the ordinary. Seeing as my body craved blood and was on overdrive, I picked up on Elena's smell almost the second she stepped near the house.

With a roll of my eyes, I made my way around the front, shuffling between the trees to keep myself hidden. Sure enough, I watched as Elena descended down the stairs. I used my speed to quickly rush down into the cellar, where Elena was standing, gazing up at Damon with a face full of shock. There was a dead body lying at her feet.

"Why don't we just make this a party?" Damon said when he spotted me, rolling his eyes. I shrugged in reply.

"Couldn't let Elena, who is supposed to be sitting in the car, get killed," I shot back, glaring at her. She looked at me with a look of guilt shining in her eyes.

"Come on," Damon ordered. "We don't have much time before they notice what we've done." Damon led us deeper into the cellar, where we could see Stefan tied up and very obviously been tortured. Damon motioned for us to move, shutting a large wooden door behind us.

"E-Elena," Stefan sputtered out, groans of pain emitting from him. "No, you shouldn't be here."

"She was supposed to stay in the car," Damon told him, looking over at another vampire that was tied in a chair. He flipped a stake in his hand, moving to stab the poor vampire.
