Annabelle

BY THE TIME I made it to the clearing in the woods where Katherine had told me the ritual was taking place, I was too late. Jenna's grey body lay on the ground. Stefan was groaning in pain as he rolled around near the circle of fire. It was the one Elena was trapped in.

It had taken me longer than I hoped to get there, and by the time I was even relatively close, Greta had lowered the ring of fire and Nik already had his hands on Elena.

"Stefan," I breathed out as I fell to my knees beside him, my hands resting on his shoulder.

"E-Elena," Stefan said through breaths of pain. "Help her." My eyes locked onto where my uncle was, fangs already sunk into Elena.

"I've got this, Stefan," I told him, pushing myself up as I stumbled forward. "Uncle Nik, don't do this!  Leave her be!"

Suddenly, before I could get close enough, there was a fire in a line in front of me, stopping me from moving. I let out a frustrated yell, hearing Stefan crying for Elena behind me. Finally, Elena's dead body dropped to the ground and the fire went away.

"I can feel it," my uncle muttered as I sprinted past him, crouching down beside Elena. She was truly dead and no amount of vampire blood could fix that. From across the area, I met Stefan's pain-filled ones.

Suddenly, my uncle fell forward as his bones cracked. Then, before he could fully transform, he was flung across the open area. Fire rose again and I looked at Greta to see if she was doing it, but she wasn't. My eyes found Bonnie's, who was walking toward us.

"Damon, stop-" I didn't get to finish my sentence before Damon snapped Greta's neck. My uncle was screaming and Damon shoved me aside, reaching down to pick up Elena.

I didn't know what to do, overwhelmed by all the fire and my uncle's screams. I was conflicted about who to side with. My friends or my blood?

"I advise you get the hell out of here, Annabelle," Damon told me as he left. Seeing as there was no point in trying to stop my uncle, I staggered to my feet. The damage had already been done and the best thing I could do was damage control.

"Bonnie, no," I yelled, attempting to step between her and Nik. However, I was flung away as the flames grew brighter. I groaned as my back hit a tree before my body bounced back onto the ground.

Damon had laid Elena on the ground next to Stefan, briefly helping Stefan before leaving. Bonnie was powerful, I'd admit that, but I knew I had to do something. I couldn't sit here and listen to my uncle scream in pain, I just couldn't.

Just as I had gotten back on my feet, a figure was standing over Nik. A few tears fell from my eyes, dripping down my face. This wasn't how it was supposed to happen.

"Elijah," I heard Nik whisper, using my vampire hearing to focus on the conversation.

"Hello, brother," my father said, peering down at this younger sibling, who was soaked in blood. Stefan was up on his feet now, moving to stand beside Bonnie. A startled gasp escaped my lips as my father plunged his hand into my uncle's chest.
