STEFAN HAD GONE crazy without blood, locked away in a cellar. That wasn't even the worst part. Jeremy had begged me to forgive him and then I saw Ana show up to our school, proceeding to kiss Jeremy.
I didn't visit either of the boys, too afraid I'd see myself in Stefan and not ready to face Jeremy.
Actually, Elena had helped Stefan out last night, getting him to stop going after human blood and drink animal blood. All while I was sleeping. They tended not to clue me in on stuff like this, most likely not fully trusting me but it bothered me nonetheless.
I sat on the couch early in the morning, seeing as I had woken up fully rested hours before school. A book was settled in my hand as I opted to spend the extra time reading. Stefan came walking into the living room, rubbing his eyes. "Good morning," I said as I looked up at him. He seemed surprised to see me but quickly covered it with a smile.
"Morning. Couldn't sleep?" Stefan asked me as he sat down beside me.
"Yeah, my mind was racing," I explained, shrugging.
"About what? Jeremy?" He was teasing me, I could tell, but I had no idea how he knew about anything going on between Jeremy and I.
"What?" I looked over at Stefan like he was crazy, letting out an awkward laugh. "No, definitely not."
"Really? You know, you never explained why you were at their house, in Jeremy's room with the door closed," Stefan told me, arching an eyebrow as he looked at me with a teasing smile. My cheeks flushed red at his comment. "You forget that I'm a vampire too." Stefan tapped his ears. "One of the many perks is enhanced hearing."
"We weren't doing anything, promise," I told him and he nodded, most likely already knowing that.
"Well, if you ever need help with him, feel free to talk to me. Though I'm sure I'm not the person you want to talk to about boys," Stefan chuckled and I agreed with him.
"Definitely not. But I was thinking about how you guys don't include me in things," I began. "I mean, I get you don't trust me but I'm on your side. I'm a vampire too, I can help."
After a moment of silence, Stefan said, "I'm sorry you feel that way. It's not that we don't trust you, but it's kind of hard to explain what is happening when you don't know who everybody is. Besides, you're new, and getting caught up in all this would take a while."
"I get that," I nodded. "But a brief summary would be nice."
"Are you sure you want a summary? It may not make sense to you and it definitely won't be short," Stefan commented but I was certain I wanted to know what was going on in this town.
"I want to know," I assured him, readjusting myself on the couch so I could see him. Stefan didn't hesitate to tell me everything. About John, Elena's uncle, Isobel, and whatever else was going on. It was surprising to hear how much stuff was happening and I hadn't even noticed. "Wow. That's a lot."
"Told you," Stefan teased, sending a smile in my direction. As he moved to stand, he gently patted my knee. "Well, I'm going to shower and get ready for school. I suggest you get ready, too."
"I probably should," I agreed with him. He left and I sat there for a little while longer, thinking about everything in this town before I went and got ready.
I had to face another day of school, just like everybody else had to.

Apparently, there was a founding party coming up and Caroline had forced me into helping set up floats for a parade.
I helped her tape decorations to the float, both of us laughing and talking as we decorated. Suddenly, a scream drew my attention. In an instant, I had dropped the decoration in my hand and jumped off the float. Matt had let out a cry in pain when another man jumped on top of a float, successfully crushing Matt.
"Hey, get this trailer up!" Matt yelled through his pain and multiple people instantly moved to help him, myself included. I didn't really know Matt but I knew he was important to Caroline, and since she was my only real friend at the moment, I felt obligated to help him. "Come on guys, lift it up!"
"Give me a hand," Tyler Lockwood, who Stefan had just told me about this morning, quickly grabbed the float as he tried to lift it. Multiple football players grabbed the float as a crowd surrounded us. Even with all the guys pulling, they couldn't lift it by themselves so Stefan stepped in. Within moments the float was off of Matt and he slid out. Stefan must have used his super strength, which I was refraining from using because it would be very off to people if a petit girl could suddenly life a float that not even the football players could life. The boys dropped the float once Matt was out, allowing it to slam to the ground.
"Caroline, call an ambulance," Stefan ordered as Caroline and I dropped to our knees beside Matt. Caroline nodded, scurrying to grab her phone and call 911. I stayed on one side of Matt while Stefan was on the other, sending me a worried look.
"Hey, Matt, Caroline is calling 911. Just hold on a little longer," I comforted the boy, who was grunting in pain. His leg was completely crushed and surely needed a cast.
"The ambulance is saying 15-20 minutes," Caroline announced, crouching down beside me as she panicked, eyes flickering between Matt's legs and his eyes.
"I have my car. I can take him to the hospital," Tyler announced, though Matt wasn't too keen on the idea.
"Caroline can take me," Matt said, sounding angry. My eyes flickered between Caroline and Tyler, confused. Matt clearly had some sort of grudge against Tyler, I just wasn't sure what.
"But I didn't drive," Caroline informed Matt.
"Then I'll wait. It's fine," Matt shot back, throwing his head back as he groaned in pain.
"Come on, Matt. Don't be stubborn," I said, already annoyed with him. He shot me a look, silent asking who the hell I was. Upon reading his mind, I said, "I'm Annabelle, a friend of Caroline's."
"You will not wait, okay? You need to see a doctor. Tyler's driving. End of story," Caroline hurriedly cut in, ignoring my brief introduction. After a moment of hesitation, Matt gave in.
"Fine," he grumbled. Tyler awkwardly stood there for another moment, looking at Caroline.
"Go!" Caroline ordered Tyler and he quickly hurried toward his car but not before calling out, "I'll bring my car around."
"I'll take care of things here," I assured Caroline. "We'll get these floats done and that way you can go to the hospital with him." Caroline gave me a nod, a thankful look displayed in her eyes.
"I owe you," Caroline told me but I shook my head.
"It's what friends are for," I said, a small grin plastered on my face as Tyler pulled up. Those words sounded funny coming out of my word, I hadn't had real friends in centuries. Together, Caroline and I lifted Matt up and helped him into the car.
After Matt, Caroline, and Tyler had left, I stood up, glancing around the area to see everybody still staring. "Alright, everybody back to work." When nobody moved, I added, "Now!"
Everyone scrambled, moving to continue what they were doing as if nothing had happened. We easily finished everything in a couple of hours, something I was happy to report back to Caroline. She was more than thrilled, thanking me multiple times.
