After the first day, the Nekoma third years found themselves talking in the lobby of the hotel they were staying in.
While talking, they noticed Kenma walking down the stairs to get something from the vending machine.
"He hates being in the spotlight, but we're here dragging him to the national championship," Yaku said, watching Kenma head to the vending machine.
"Yeah, and I'll admit, he doesn't look like a championship athlete either," Kuroo commented with a smile.
Kenma was trying to get around the two other athletes that were standing in front of the vending machine, but he was so quiet that they jumped when they noticed.
"Did you know, the entire time he's been playing volleyball, Kenma comes down with a fever whenever practice is especially hard, or after a match. Since I dragged him into it, I always feel kinda bad, but now we're here at nationals, so maybe he'll think it was worth the effort, at least I hope so," Kuroo said.
Yaku shook his head, "I don't think he cares about that kind of stuff."
"Whatever, you don't know what could spark his interest."
Kai laughed, "Thinking about Kenma's personality, he would've quit if he didn't like it. Right, dude?"
Kuroo saw Kenma on his phone and frowned, "Kenma, I told you no video games before bed! You're going to get a horrible night's sleep! Honestly, you and Mari really need your phones taken away."
Kenma ignored him and answered Kai, "Yeah, I'll quit if I really want to. It's also true that I would probably feel kinda bad for abandoning Kuroo."
Kuroo looked surprised, "You would?"
Kenma sighed, "Yeah, I do actually care a little for other people, you know."
"Yeah, just flattered to hear you say it," Kuroo responded.
Kenma gave him an annoyed look, "I said "probably" and "kinda". Seriously, think about it for a second, is it likely I would keep practicing if I felt bad for you? Obviously, I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't like it. I don't have a reason to keep playing, but I don't have a reason to quit either. It's normal, isn't it? Isn't it?"
Kuroo leaned back in his seat after a second, "Alright, touché."
"Typically rational."
"Stop with the philosophy."
Kenma sighed again, "I don't enjoy sweating or being out of breath, like at all, but I don't have a problem with leveling up. Plus, Mari said she likes watching me play. Good night."
Once he was gone, Yaku smiled wide,
"So Mari is the reason he's so persistent? How adorable."
Kuroo smiled, "He's always been like that with her. If she wants to do something, he'll join her. If she stares at something in the store, he'll buy it for her. If she wants a prize at the arcade, he'll win it for her."
Kai smiled, "They are adorable together. I can't wait to see what happens with them in the future."
Kuroo nodded, "Mari and Kenma don't know this, but our families have a whole wedding binder for them. They are definitely getting married."
Yaku hit Kuroo on the shoulder, "I better be invited."
Kuroo nodded with a smile, "We already have a guest list and everything. So, it's Nekoma, Karasuno, Fukurodani, her friends from Tokyo, our families, obviously, and anyone else they want to invite."
Yaku smiled and nodded, approving the list, "Have you made the invitations?"
"Not yet. We thought we would leave that part up to them."
Kai laughed and shook his head, "Guys, those two are still in high school. Why are you talking about it like it's going to happen next week?"
Kuroo and Yaku were silent before laughing. It's true that ever since Kenma and Himari were kids their families had been planning their wedding. On top of that, the wedding binder was tucked away safely in a box at Kenma's house, which he had no clue about.
"You're right, Kai. We should head to bed too, it's getting late."
The three headed back up the stairs, excited for the next day.
