One Last Game

Karasuno had a few hours before their match against Kamomedai, so they decided to rest and make some preparations.

"Guys, don't just worry about Hoshiumi. I know he's amazing, but so is their blocking. Their blocking is one of the best in the nation."

"Like Date Tech?"

"Even better."

The team started getting a little nervous, so Daichi stepped in and clapped his hands together.

"Guys, we are in the top eight teams here among others in the entire nation. If we win this we'll be playing in center court."

The boys were immediately encouraged and gained confidence. They cheered and dispersed to rest some more before their match.

Himari was lying down next to where Kageyama was sitting. She listened to the scratching of his pencil as he wrote in his volleyball journal.

Kiyoko walked up to them, a little surprised to see Kageyama writing so much.

"Kageyama, what's that?"

Himari smiled with her eyes still closed and answered for him, "It's his diary."

Kageyama flicked her forehead before going back to writing. Kiyoko shrugged and walked away.

After a while, it was finally time for Karasuno to head out to the court.

"Hinata, the tiny giant, he's here!"

Hinata gasped and turned to where Saeko was calling him. He looked at Himari and she nodded, saying it was okay for him to go.

After a few minutes, Hinata got back. Himari smiled at him and handed him a volleyball,

"How was it? Meeting the tiny giant, I mean."

Hinata smiled, "He doesn't play volleyball anymore, like you said, but I don't care. I'm going to be my own player."

"Good."

After warming up for a while, the two teams lined up on their sides of the court.

"Thank you for the game!"

The players went back to their benches for last minute speeches.

"Yeah, they might have a player that's six and a half feet tall, and sure, they have better blocking than Date Tech, but none of that matters. Don't lose the battle!"

"Yeah!"

Himari smiled, "I'm proud of you guys. Do your best out there."

The team smiled and nodded. The players went back onto the court and waited for the whistle to blow. Once it did, Kamomedai sent a nasty float serve right to Daichi.

Fortunately, he received it and sent it to Kageyama. Kageyama set it to Hinata for a quick attack and scored the first point for Karasuno.

"It wouldn't be a Karasuno game if it didn't start with the weird quick," Himari said, making Kiyoko, Ukai, and Takeda laugh.

"You've got that right."

The crowd cheered and some were surprised that Hinata was able to get past such a high wall.

"Kamomedai definitely knew that was coming," Kiyoko muttered.

"Of course they did. If they watched any of our previous games then our first point is almost always because of a quick," Himari said.

Kageyama was up to serve, but it was received. In response to the quick attack, Hoshiumi spiked the ball past a triple block, gaining a point for Kamomedai.

Himari watched Hinata through narrow eyes, realizing that he was sweating way too much for the beginning of the game.

Hinata, please don't tell me...

The game continued and Kamomedai earned another point by blocking Tanaka's spike, more specifically he was blocked by Hirugami.

Hirugami said something to Hinata and Kageyama, putting them on edge.

"This is going to be an interesting game," Ukai muttered.

Himari glanced at Hinata, "Yeah..."

Hoshiumi was up to serve, but Daichi was able to receive it. The team set up for a synchronized attack which allowed Tanaka to score, putting Karasuno at two points.

Himari sighed, "This is going to be a long game."

Throughout the first set, Himari kept a close eye on Hinata. She could tell something was wrong and she was going to find out what.

When Hinata and Noya switched, Himari grabbed the back of Hinata's jersey and dragged him to the side.

"Huh? Mari?"

Himari was observing his face before she grabbed his arm. She instantly reeled back and looked at Hinata shocked.

"Hinata, you have a fever."

Hinata looked at her and panicked. Himari gave him a sad look.

"I can still play! Please, don't tell anyone! After this game, I promise I'll rest," he whispered.

Himari gave him a look, "I can't let you do that. Hinata, playing with a fever could land you in the hospital. You won't get better by tomorrow, so you won't be able to play at all."

Hinata pleaded, "Mari, please! Just a little longer!"

Himari ran her hand through her hair, "Just a little longer, but once this set is over, you're out. I won't forgive myself if something happens to you."

Hinata nodded and quickly switched with Noya again.

Please don't let me regret this Hinata.

Unfortunately for Hinata, the first set ended with Karasuno at twenty points.

Once the team gathered around the bench, Ukai discussed their next plan, which obviously included Hinata.

Himari shook her head, "Coach, Hinata-"

She was cut off by Hinata covering her mouth. She glared at him, but he gave her a pleading look. She sighed and just shook her head at Ukai. He gave her a confused look, but let it go.

"Thank you, Mari."

"Don't make me regret this."
