High Fevers and Naps

Once the second set started, Kageyama was up to serve. Kamomedai received it, but it went back to Karasuno. The team set up for a synchronized attack and scored a point.

However, Kamomedai was quick to respond with an attack from Hoshiumi. Himari watched as Hinata attacked next and earned Karasuno a point.

Hinata is going to give me grey hairs, Himari thought to herself.

Hinata ran in for another attack during the next play, but Kageyama did a setter dump and earned Karasuno another point.

"Kageyama and his setter dumps," Himari mumbled with a smile.

"He always does that to intimidate the other team," Kiyoko responded with a small laugh.

Karasuno pulled ahead by one point after Hinata scored a point. No matter how good he was playing, Himari couldn't help but stress out and worry for his health.

"Himari, what's wrong? You're staring at Hinata weird," Ukai asked.

Himari shook her head, "Nothing to worry about right now."

Ukai nodded slowly and turned back to watch the game. He knew something was going on, but he wasn't going to push it.

Karasuno had taken the second set. Himari tried to get Hinata to step down and rest, but he refused and pleaded with her to not say anything.

She conceded and let him play for the third set, but that was a mistake. She knew it the second his playing had gotten sloppy.

It might've looked like nothing to everyone else, but Himari knew his fever was affecting him. She stood up from the bench ready to ask for substitution, but Hinata just looked at her desperately.

He wanted to play, he wanted to stay on the court the longest. He would accept the consequences later. He just wanted to play a little longer.

The moment he couldn't get up, she knew that was it for him. She hated herself for letting it get that far.

"Hinata, you're running a fever aren't you?" Kageyama asked.

After Kageyama was done talking, Himari walked onto the court and put her hand on Hinata's forehead. She looked at him and sighed,

"Hinata, I've let you play long enough. It's time for you to stop playing."

He looked at her with desperation and tears in his eyes. Himari teared up and shook her head.

"Mari, please! I can still play!"

"No, that's enough. Please, just listen and rest."

She grabbed him and helped him to the bench. Takeda took his temperature and was shocked. The thermometer read 39.1 degrees.

Ukai looked at Himari, "You knew, didn't you?"

Himari looked down and nodded. Ukai sighed in frustration,

"Well, why didn't you say anything, kid?!"

"I'm sorry. Hinata, I'm so sorry," she apologized.

Ukai and Takeda talked to him and finally convinced him to go rest.

"Nakamura, take him. I'm disappointed in you, you should know better," Ukai told her.

The other players tried to reassure Hinata, but he was just frustrated with himself. Himari grabbed him and helped him up.

"Come on, let's go."

Hinata nodded and began walking. He silently cried as they left the gym and Himari was tearing herself down for letting it get so far.
