ALORA
My whole body stiffened. Alerted. Happiness was far gone from around me. I could even sense the sudden changes in the air as the energy in the room crackled. The atmosphere that was clear till now had been polluted, apparently poisoned by the appearance of someone nefarious.
Amongst the light crowd of people came out the woman whose even a tiny action of seeming sweetness made me feel disgusted. And then there was the nefarious man because of whom I still felt frightened, uncomfortable to an extreme point I couldn't explain.
And as always, Paulo was wearing gloves to hide his extra finger. It was actually those gloves that made me terrified for no reason.
However, there was also a specific someone with no choice, the man I came to know was only joining them because cruelty didn't let him have any. Paulo, to keep himself out of scrutinising eyes, he made sure to have Luciano copy the gloves too. Luciano certainly had no fault.
For a moment, I just observed them impassively. On the other side, Patricia moved her eagle eyes through the crowd around the room, tightening her arm with Luciano. Both their masks seemed matching with their attire as well as to show they were connected. Whereas Paulo stood an inch away from them. Strange how he was not standing behind them as he acted to be her bodyguard.
Was it because he thought people wouldn't notice him as he had a mask on?
Pathetic.
Lost in my head, I didn't realise that Sir Vincent had stopped moving between the dances. I glanced at him and noticed his eyes remained a little longer on Luciano and Patricia. Then he silently nodded at me, I blinked again and he swayed away from me to Davina. Only then I realised that the boss excused himself to do his actual job, which was to provide protection to his wife. Lovely.
I blinked again and Enzo came before me. He immediately grabbed my waist and I threw my arms around his neck.
Putting his face near mine, he softly whispered in my ear. "Show them what you are."
I swallowed hard, nodding wordlessly to the man who never forgot to high me up even in times when I couldn't even think straight. The man who had put me first within his priorities and also let me be first even in case of my own personal things.
Enzo Ferrante was my shield and that's why I was not afraid of getting scars on me. Or behind my back. Doesn't matter if those villains try anything to get rid of me. My love, that man had my back. Everytime.
Bottling up all the negative thoughts, I smiled softly at him. I remembered what Enzo told me when I had come before him carrying this flat, though not that much, yet elegant dress. He told me I would look like some character from horror movies in this specific dress. Honestly, I took it as a compliment. Certainly, then I decided to wear this one only and not look through any other dresses even when Enzo insisted on it. Because for some reason, tonight I desired to create some horrific aura rather than any kind of princess one.
Enzo turned me around, I took a glance at my enemies and... I saw Paulo lurking eyes from women to women. That same smirk on his face that always sent eerie chills down my spine. Immense disgust rippled through me when I saw him lustfully eyeing even those girls who seemed of my age.
Disgusted, I wandered my eyes through the couples and paused on my girls group. Then I watched Mia, she looked so happy. In here. With Galen. With people. I knew I had made some drastic decisions by having Mia in the party where most people were certainly just animals in disguise of humans. But if not right now, then it's never.
Shaking off my thoughts, I focused on the surroundings with a straight face. Seeing Luciano coming on the dance floor with Patricia; he had no sign of happiness on his face. They came right beside Enzo's parents, and just an inch away from Mia and Galen.
