Dear Diary...
...We had just come home from a Christmas dinner with my family. It was snowing outside, we'd taken a shower and were sitting in the living room, drinking a warm cup of tea.
Y/n was shivering, so I pulled a blanket over the two of us and cuddled up with her.
Soft music was playing from the speakers, and our dog, Charlie, whom we had just adopted a month ago, was sleeping on the floor in front of us.
He was a puppy golden, who had been given to the shelter because the litter's mum sadly passed.
Y/n had always wanted a dog, and since I've always known that my dog should be a Charlie, we went to the shelter and chose our dog.
Y/n chose him. I named him. It was perfect.
Now, as Christmas day is getting closer and closer, we're learning how to navigate the world with a golden. Y/n and I have already decided that since we're living in London, Charlie can come with us to any race in Europe, but that he will stay with our neighbour whenever Y/n visits me, and Charlie can't come with her.
We've also made exceptions. Brazil, Singapore, and Miami are the only other cities Charlie will visit as well.
That's more than enough travelling for a dog that big.
We haven't declared him to social media yet, so this golden puppy feels like a familiar secret, like something only to ourselves.
We're already planning how we'll teach Charlie to handle big crowds, considering that goldens are usually super friendly.
Y/n has already attended dog training courses with him, and it's been working nicely. He can sit, stay, go, and even sit between our legs on command.
He's a smart little fella.
But our favourite thing to do is grab little Charlie and place him between the two of us, smothering him with hundreds of kisses.
Until, of course, I stop Y/n and give her my own puppy eyes. She always laughs, but ends up pressing a sweet kiss on my cheek or forehead.
I've seen Charlie watch her do that and instantly knew that that look was from a son to his parents.
My parents have been asking when Y/n and I are going to get married, since we've been together for over five years.
They've also hinted that they'd love more grandchildren, which, as far as I can see, will be dogs first.
And that's what they got! However, since it's my parents, you know they absolutely fell in love with Charlie and were smothering him with kisses the same way Y/n and I do.
So, as we sat on the sofa, close to one another, with Charlie lying on the ground in front of us, I turned to face Y/n: "You have no idea how much my parents love you."
Y/n was surprised at my words, but she smiled: "Thank you, Lando, that means a lot."
"It's true," I continued, "they always ask about you, how you're doing, want to know when we'll visit them again."
She chuckled: "I love them, too, Lando. They're the sweetest people I've ever met. Especially you Mum."
I smiled. It's true. Y/n loves my Mum. They've gone out together multiple times, and I always catch Y/n texting her.
It's the best thing in the world.
And so is napping on the sofa after a large dinner with your family.
With a golden in your arms.
And Y/n.
