7 A Safe Shelter?

Ellie's POV

We sat there for probably half and hour, but sitting on the curb, before I thought maybe we should get going. It started to lightly sprinkle rain, but I didn't care enough to even pull up my hood.

I held Zi zi in my arms because, one, I didn't care that she was getting my hoodie muddy seeing as it already was from when I tripped and, two, he seemed tiered from wandering all day. He snuggled into my warm chest, still purring. I think he fell a sleep...

I walked on and on, not really sure what I was looking for, just knowing I'd know it when I see it. I tried not to stray too far from Agasa's house. It was getting darker by the minute and the rain poured harder the darker it got. Maybe I should head back to Agasa's before I can no longer see. I turned around and re traced my steps.

However, I must not have done a good job because the next thing I knew, I was standing in a small park behind some library. At the edge of the park was a small group of trees. Seeing as I needed shelter from the rain, I ran for it.

Zi zi was still asleep, so I gently lay him under a tree then set leaning against it myself. The branches were perfect - thick enough to keep out most of the rain, but thin enough to see the starry sky. This was better then the sun set. Zi zi snuggled closer. Then I noticed it.

The tree we were leaning against  had a... rope ladder? curious, I climbed up. What I found looked like an abandoned tree house. There was a few small holes in the walls (windows maybe?) which went up to about my shoulder. There was no trapdoor or roof, and all that was inside was a small dresser, a few scattered pillows, and a folding chair. Inside the dresser was a rope with hooks on each end and a folded blanket. This was a really lucky find. A bit too lucky... But if this wasn't some kind of trap, then I just found the perfect home! But still...

I grabbed a pillow and the blanket and climbed back down the ladder. I took off my Hoodie to wrap around Zi zi, then wrapped the blanket around myself. It was cold with only a t-shirt at night! We camped out there, under the tree. The rain had stopped and the galaxy was still beautiful. I debated if we should run away from this place or not, but in the end we slept under the tree.

Maybe tomorrow KID can give us some answers... If I can even make it back to Agasa's...

Conan's POV

I still couldn't understand why Ellie had left. Did she not understand the power of the black organization? I was more mad at Agasa really. Why didn't he stop her?! He knew the dangers! I just hope she was safe. If they find her, its more likely then not that they would somehow link her to me and Haibara...

I looked out the window, lost in my thoughts. The rain was pouring. Hard. I hope she found shelter... I hope KID can provide answers... Who am I kidding? He has nothing to do with this mess that I started. If only I hadn't snooped on those men in black...
