Yo melons, so my fam is going on a small vacation elsewhere for the week, to a place where I can't reach wifi very well. Therefore, I posted this week's chap early because I probs won't be back until after this Friday but I didn't want to leave you hanging. So here. Enjoy the chapter!

Also, happy early Thanksgiving, if you celebrate it! I'm thankful for such great people reading my books and being sportive of my silly little head canons. Thank you all for being in my life, no matter if you're a ghost reader or comment on everything. I love you all  :)

Ellie's POV

"So... what do you like to do in your free time?"

"What?"

"Anything you enjoy doing?" I ask again.

Me and Ayano are in the bathroom, both doing separate jobs. I'm doing toilets, she's showers. We already finished the sinks, mirrors, and trash earlier. What's left is this and mopping.

We haven't said a word to each other since the incident, and it's been... awkward, to say the least.

I just can't bare the dead silence anymore, but there's really nothing to talk about, and the few things I would like to know would just make it worse between us. I mean, I'd love to know why Ayano hates me, or what's the deal with Luna, but maybe it's too personal? If I want us to get on better terms with each other, it's best to start small.

"I don't see why you suddenly care." She finally says.

I frown at her, even if she can't see it through the wall. "I'm just trying to be friendly. If I tell you about me, will you answer some questions in return?"

"..."

I'm not hearing a no.

"Well, for starters, I like drawing and music... Maybe you've seen my sketch book before, I wouldn't be surprised. Umm... I used to live in a tree house and - "

"No you didn't."

"What?"

"There's no way you could have lived in a tree house. What about when it snows? Wouldn't it be too cold?"

"Well, yeah, but I was never outside for that. This would have be my first winter alone, but, you know... I'm here now and all that."

"How did you pay for groceries and stuff? What about your pet?"

"I worked at several different places, doing odd jobs. As for Luna and Zi zi, they just hunted for themselves."

"Who's Zi zi?"

"My cat."

"Why didn't it eat your bird?"

I shrug. "They got along fine, so I just never worried about it."

"Where are they now?"

"With Susan, I assume. She said they'd be safe until I'm..." I stop there, not really wanting to say "adopted". The word still makes me feel uneasy and I've tried my best to forget this place's an orphanage. But Ayano still gets what I mean anyways, so it doesn't matter whether I say it or not.

"So, what about you?"

Again, Ayano is hesitant, but she answers soon enough. I told you she'd come around.

"I like... Magic tricks... and board games. Chinese checkers is my favorite."

That's... not what I expected. Ayano seemed more like the type for arm wrestling or something, yet she likes making herself think? Interesting...

Now that I think about it... She wanted a dove. She likes using her brain. And magic tricks. Anyone else getting the same hunch I am?

"Would you, by chance, like KID the Phantom Thief?"

I hear her drop something - sounds like an empty bottle of shampoo - the hurry to pick it up again. "Pff, what? Why would I like a criminal? I mean, sure, he's good at magic and whatever, but really? Shouldn't I like a true professional better?"

I close the toilet I was cleaning, finally finished with the last one, and gather up the cleaning supplies. After it's all in the bucket again, I peek around the stall's corner at Ayano. She's turned away from me, but I can still tell she's blushing.

"You don't like like him, do you?" I ask teasingly.

Suddenly, I have to duck as a fresh bottle of conditioner is thrown at my head. "NO!"

My smile only grows. "Yes you do! You like KID! The KID, of all people!" I start laughing at loud, when suddenly I'm on the floor, Ayano on top.

I put up my arms, trying to defend myself as best I can but she easily hits me anyways. I scream.

Lucky for me, Sakura was near by and heard the commotion. She's inside and pulling Ayano off of me within a matter of seconds. While the two argue, I check the mirror for anything bleeding. Nothing looks worse than a bruise starting to form.

Sighing, I turn back to the girls, a bit shaken by Ayano's attack but otherwise fine. I'm about to tell Sakura I'm ok, but then I notice something.

Why can't I understand what either girl is shouting?

Please don't tell me Ayano really...

I check my back pocket, my hand meeting crushed bits of technology.

My translator remote.
