Ellie's POV

For a long time, I just sat there, looking at Ran. She had her face in her hands, trying to hide her tears, but it wasn't working. Yet to acknowledge me, she must feel so alone.

Sonoko went home. What's-her-name is with Heiji. Conan was kidnapped. Aoko is who-knows-where. Agasa drove the Detective Boys home. Her dad don't seem to care. Or maybe he just doesn't notice? Same thing.

I watch tears drip down her arms and fall to the ground. They seemed to form a lowercase "i" when you looked at it from a certain angle. Ran. i. Rain.

She looked up for a second, and slightly jumped at the sight of me. "Sorry, I didn't mean to stare."

"No, no... It's fine. I just... when is he coming home?"

She didn't expect me to understand, so the question wasn't really fired at anyone. It was just... there. Hanging above us, like a dark cloud, threatening a sunny day. Not that now seemed too sunny in the first place...

She didn't expect an answer, but she got one. "Soon. I hope."

She looked over at me, shocked tears still streaming down. "Excuse me?"

"Conan told me about Shinichi, and how you're always waiting. I'm sorry I had to remind you of him."

"Who said you reminded me of him? You did nothing wrong."

"Yes I did. I bought up... that roller coaster..."

"...What roller coaster?"

"And... I used his line... I'm sorry for stealing it."

"...You never used his line."

I wanted to tell her 'Don't try playing dumb! You well know what roller coaster, I heard you finish his line for me, there's no way you didn't hear it!!' or something, but knew it would come out mean. I didn't want to cause more tears if I could help it. But I didn't know what else I could say, so I did the easiest thing to do.

I did nothing.

I just sat next to her, existing, letting her get it all out. She reached over to hug me, and I let her. My hair is now wet with her rain drops.

I don't know how much I was such a comfort to her, but it worked. I just thought it was a bit weird, because she didn't know me that much outside of "her student" and "Conan's friend".

Conan's friend...

That's it. Whenever she cries over Shinichi, she goes to Conan for reassurance. But he is gone too. I'm the next best thing right now.

"They'll both come back soon. I know they will."

"...I know..."

Another type of rain began to fall.

Mouri's muffled shouts called us the the car.

We drove in silence.

I listened to rain drops.

You tell me : which ones?

I know I suck at writing tragic stuff. That's Rory's job for a reason. You don't have to scream at me. -.-"
