Chapter Eighty-Four

"Dan, no. What are you doing?", I begin, scared of what is hiding in the little velvet box, that looks even smaller in his big hands.
"Babe.", he simply says.
"No, no, no. We talked about this. Multiple times."
"Hey, listen to me. Just open it. Please"

I sigh and take the box, hoping there isn't a ring inside.

And thankfully, there isn't.

Inside is a beautiful, silver necklace with a little diamond charm that has something written on the back of it.

"It is the addition to the promise ring I gave you a while back.", he says before reading aloud what is ingraved on the back of the little charm: "Helplessly fell in love."

"Oh my- wow.", I stutter, flashed by the thoughtful gift he gave me.

He takes the necklace, kisses it and puts it around my neck: "Gorgeous."

I thank him by kissing him again.

"From 'can't help falling in love' to 'helplessly in love', I guess.", Dan says, looking from the ring on my finger to the new necklace I can't stop touching.

"Thank you. Honestly. Thank you so much. For everything. I love you."

Before finally getting out of the booth, we print out the images displayed on the screen and put them away into our pockets.
I also wipe away the marks of my lipstick Dan has all over his stunning face.

I go back to the party first, Dan follows minutes later, so no one suspects that we were somewhere together.

I get back to interacting with the guests after obviously eating some cake.
I am talking to a woman named Fleur, when a man, who introduces himself as Richard, joins the conversation.

"Incredible line, I must say.", he says with an accent I can't quite identify.
"Thank you so much" I respond with a painted smile.
"You were the one involved in the actual designing of the clothes, right?"
"Yes! It was an incredible experience."
"Very impressive. Are you thinking of your own line any time soon?"
I laugh at the thought of that: "I wish that would be possible, but I am afraid that will not happen for a while. It would be a dream come true though, definitely."
"Well, what if I told that that indeed is possible?"
