DAN'S P.O.V:
I am talking to some of the people at the party that I haven't seen in a while, when Joe comes up behind one of them.
"Hey Dan, how have you been?", he asks, seeming awkwardly enthusiastic.
"Um- quite good. How about you?"
"Me too. Do you want a drink? There's Vodka, some cocktails, tequila, ..."
"No, no thank you. I don't want anything.", I say repulsively.
"Ah come on. Just one? A cocktail? Mix?"
I sigh, giving in since I know he won't stop there: "Alright, just one can't hurt, can it?"
Joe just grins in response and staggers to his right, grabbing a drink for me.
I take it and slowly begin to drink it, the percentage of alcohol clearly overwhelming the soda.
Following is a nice conversation that leads to nothing deep, just talking as friends, which lasts for about thirty minutes before he encourages me to take shots with him.
You can tell he is already typsy by the way he slurs his words but I decide to give in again and just enjoy the night.
My girlfriend is nowhere to be found, so I just assume she has her fun and I have mine.
"So, you and Y/N? How's it?", Joe suddenly asks, clearly drunk.
"Very good.", I shyly say, avoiding that topic at all costs.
But there is no turning back now.
He goes on a full rant on how 'wonderful, beautiful and charming' she is and he still 'very much so' enjoys her company just as a 'platonic friend'.
Also, he is talking about how her and I are such a perfect couple and how I should treat her like she deserves to be.
Him genuinely expressing his admiration makes me remember how lucky I am, she is perfect, and, adding to that, makes me want to have her by my side.
My wish comes true when someone tells us to head out now, it is almost the new year.
I walk along the street with some people, when I see her.
Even though my vision is slightly blurry, her beauty remains the same.
"Three minutes.", I say softly and hug her from the back.
She turns around smiling and is about to kiss me when I turn my head so her lips meet my warm cheek: "Wait till midnight, baby."
She crinkles her nose when the smell of alcohol hits her: "How much did you drink?"
"Notalot.", I slur my words.
"You smell so bad.", she says when she now turns her head away to escape the smell.
"Two minutes!", someone calls.
"I really didn't drink a lot, justlikea bit of, um, like- tequila?"
Rolling her eyes, she answers: "A bit. Definitely."
"Oh come on, baby."
"Why did you drink so much? You never drink this much.", she sighs.
"I didn't even drink that much. Just a few shots and a few cocktails and maybe a few glasses of-"
"So you drank a lot.", I get cut off.
"I mean, I didn't want to at first but Joe-", I begin to explain but get interrupted again by someone shouting: "One more minute!"
"What?"
"A minute. I'll explain later.", I respond to her confused looks and pull her close by her bum.
"Whatever."
Smiling down at her beautiful face, I begin to talk: "Y/N, baby. Thank you. Thank you so much for this past year. I love you more than I have ever loved anyone else and I am so happy you forgave me and my stupid mistakes and that you are my girlfriend right now. Like how is this possible? This creative, smart, humerous girl that is also so breathtakingly beautiful is my girlfriend. I really don't deserve you but you make me the happiest person on earth. Everything about you. From the little weird habits you have to how strongly you feel about others. I love it. I love you, Y/N and I will love you as long as I possibly can."
Her grin grows, making her look even more breathtaking: "I love you Dan. Thank you for everything, you mean the world to me."
The last numbers until midnight get counted down before I can reply.
And right when the sound of counting stops and the sound of fireworks start going off, I lean in to kiss my girlfriend.
The kiss doesn't last too long, since our friends quickly come over to celebrate the new year with us.
After a little more celebration, we all walk back to Louise's house, me and her hand in hand just like last year.
A little seperated from the group, she asks me about what I told her before: "What did you say about Joe earlier?"
Rubbing my pounding head, I reply: "He just kept bringing me a lot of drinks and wanting to do shots with me."
"Okay? That's pretty... random."
"I know. He was being very very friendly, even sober."
She shrugs and enters the house we now arrived at.
Back inside, Joe, now incredibly drunk, comes over to me: "Dan! Happy new year. Celebrationary shots?"
I hesitate, but because I know Y/N is in safe hands, I let him convince me and start to take a lot of shots with Joe.
All I remember is drinking, laughing, him going up to my girlfriend and him telling me about how much he wishes to find a girl like her.
