"Here we are.", Dan says and stops at the part we have to either separate or break numerous rules
He puts down the stuff he was carrying for me kindly and pulls me in for a hug.
"I don't want to go.", I sigh into his warm chest.
"And I don't want you to leave me.", he pauses, "But I really really hope you have the best time in New York, you deserve it more that anyone, love. Enjoy it."
"I'll try to as much as I can. It will be, um- quite hard without you there."
I look up at him awkwardly, smiling and taking in his beauty. Something I won't see for a while.
My eyes drift to the big clock above the food counter, ticking and telling me it is almost time to leave: "My flight's boarding soon."
He gives me a slight smile: "This is the end I guess."
"You're making it sound incredibly dramatic.", I laugh.
"It is.", he now chuckles and pulls me a little closer before letting go.
I bend down to grab my bag, swing it over my shoulder and tug on my big sweater: "Alrighty."
"Alrighty."
We stand there for a while just looking at each other and not exactly knowing what to say because we've never had this much time apart from another. Well, Australia. But this time around we don't actually want to separate.
"Um, make sure to text me right away when you land, okay?"
"Sure.", I say before yawning and hearing the announcer's voice in the back, reminding me that the plane will board in a few minutes.
"I'll see you soon.", Dan says, "And I'll miss you a lot."
"I'll miss you a lot too.", I say and hug him one last time.
Pulling away from him, I see his eyes getting watery and red: "I swore I wouldn't cry. It's just late that's it."
"Definitely that.", I joke.
He pokes my nose and takes my head into his hands before kissing me lovingly.
Our foreheads stay together, noses barely touching.
"Last chance to check in for flight 103 before departure.", the woman behind the desk says.
"I better go."
"You better."
I nod, tell him that I love him, wave one last time and am about to turn around when he grabs me by my wrist: "If you ever get scared or anxious, text me or call me no matter the time. Promise?"
Traditionally, I hold up my ring finger: "Promise."

"Are you sure this is my seat?", I ask the air hostess who is wearing an orange pencil skirt that is so bright it begins to hurt my eyes.
"Yes, darling, yes it is.", she reassures, puts my bag away for me and gestures to the seat: "Please get comfortable and enjoy the flight."
I nod confused and let myself fall down on the blanket layed out for me.
When Fleur told me about 'flighing first class', I was expecting buissness class with maybe an extra pillow and better food. By no means did I expect to have my own booth with a TV and even a bag full of fancy looking toiletries inside.
Speaking of Fleur, she already got on the plane as early as possible so there was no way of seeing her beforehand since I am the opposite of her in that case.
I look around for her but don't spot anyone at first because she fits in with the air hostesses, wearing the same sophisticated orange pencil skirt.
She gives me a look of relieve and a quick wave from across the plane.
I wave back before seeing her dissapear again behind some men in suits walking past.
Everyone around me looks preppy and perfect. Way too preppy and perfect. After all, this is going to be an overnight and long flight so I am definitely winning in this situation, wearing my joggers, trainers and big sweater.
Silently, I snuggle up into Dan's shirt and try to keep calm. And, to my surprise, having a bit of home with me, helps a lot.
Take off was fine and so are the first few hours of the flight since I spend them distracted with a book and slowly fall asleep.
The only times I get woken up is when breakfast arrives and the hostess with a thick irish accent asks me if I want tea or coffee and when we are about to land.
Rubbing my eyes, I collect the things I spread in the booth and look outside just to see skyscraper over skyscraper and thousands of little lights reflecting from beneath us.
"Ladies and gentlemen we are preparing to land. Please buckle in and don't leave your seats."
