Monday came.
I still haven't talked to Manu. He was calling me nonstop, but I always turn my phone off.
"Kirby? Are you okay?" Jenny asked.
"Huh?" I looked at her.
"You don't look well. Are you sick?" Jenny touched my forehead.
"I-I'm fine." I tried to smile as I flipped the pages of my book.
"Are you sure?" She asked. "We can go to the clinic, you know."
"I'm fine." I said.
"Okay." Jenny said. "By the way, I was planning that since Manu's shooting here again, what if we have a double date? That would be awesome, right?" Jenny clapped her hands while squealing.
My heart skipped a beat.
"Umm...I don't know, Jen. I-I have a lot of work to do today." I reasoned out.
"What? C'mon, Kirby. Don't be a nerd." She joked. "Besides, I texted Troy already."
I nervously bit my lower lip. "Manu was okay with it, too?" I asked.
"I don't know. Wait, you should be the one telling him that." Jenny chuckled. "Is there a problem with you two?"
I shook my head. "N-no." I looked at my watch. "I-I need to go, Jenny." I stood up and walked away without waiting for her reply.
"Kirby!"
I closed my eyes for a second when I heard Bryce's voice. I looked back and smiled at him.
"Hey, Bryce."
"Are you okay? You look tired." He said.
"I'm fine." I lied.
"Okay. Umm...wait." He breathed deeply before continuing. "They want you to perform again! The bar owner wants to hire you! Isn't it great?!" Bryce held my shoulders while telling me a very surprising news.
"W-wow." Was all I said. "That's...that's amazing, Bryce."
"That's your reaction? Aren't you happy?" Bryce chuckled.
"I-I'm happy, really." I smiled. "But I don't know if I will take it."
"What? Why?"
"I want to focus on my studies." Was all I said.
"I understand." He smiled. "I'll see you later, okay?"
I smiled.
It was 10 minutes before lunch break when Jenny texted me. To be honest, I don't want to go. I don't want to see Manu. I just can't. I can't believe we haven't talked since Saturday. I'm new to this kind of situation because we always make up after a fight. We don't let it go. We settle it as soon as possible. But this time it's different.
When our professor dismissed us, I hurriedly went out of the room.
Maybe I'll think of an excuse so I won't go with them.
I was shocked when I saw Jenny walking towards me.
"I've been texting you. Are you ready?" She asked.
"Why do I need to be ready?"
"I don't know. This is going to be fun, I guess." She chuckled.
I tried to smile. I don't want to go!
When we were a few steps away from outside, I took courage and told Jenny my excuse.
