•and he first finds the letters in the cupboard underneath the sink in their bathroom

•in this beat up shoe box

•he sits down on the couch all confused

•the first letter is up on top

•it's from the first year that he and Alex met

•which was freshman year

•all the letters are addressed to John

•and they talk about how much Alex adores John and how he's falling for John and everything

•there are hundreds

•they all end with

•"Your dearest love, Alex."

•the letter from the day John first kissed Alex began with

•"Dearest John, today you let me kiss you, and I almost fainted with happiness from the feeling of your lips on mine"

•there are also cute ones from their last day of high school, day they become boyfriends, first and last day of college, day they get engaged, married, etc

•John spends a good four hours reading the letters

•he's been on the verge of tears a couple of times

•and he finally gets to the last one

•"Dearest John, this letter is only for you..."

•by the end of the letter John is openly sobbing

•it's signed

•"Yours forever, Alexander Hamilton"

•it's the only letter with his whole name

•and the reason why is because this was Alex's personal suicide letter to John

•John just clenches the letter close and cries his heart out

•the next morning Eliza finds John passed out on the couch with all these letters around him

•and she just holds back tears while slowly scooping the letters up and tucking a blanket underneath John

•damn angst
